Captain Ron is a great Kurt Russell comedy.

Happy you enjoyed this! I had HBO growing up and this played on there often. Also happy nobody has ever tried to do a sequel or a remake. There is a couple of Graphic Novels called Big Trouble in Little China which is a sequel to the film and also Old Man Jack. Somebody even made a NES game for it in the style of a game called Bad Dudes! Search "[NES] Big Trouble in Little China DX" to see the gameplay. Some trivia: The Three Storms were partly the inspiration for the popular character of lightning god Raiden from Mortal Kombat fighting video game series, while David Lo Pan was the inspiration for the evil sorcerer Shang Tsung. And the three storms was inspired by the Lone wolf and cub movie. John Carpenter envisioned the film as an inverse of traditional scenarios in action films with a Caucasian protagonist helped by a minority sidekick. Jack Burton, despite his bravado, is constantly portrayed as rather bumbling; in one fight sequence he even knocks himself unconscious before the fight begins. Wang Chi, on the other hand, is constantly portrayed as highly skilled and competent. The vehicle Egg Shen drove in the movie was a 1936 White touring car. That car is now in Yellowstone National Park (the location, for which it was originally built), named "Hollywood," and gives tours out of Old Faithful.

Omg I need that graphic novel!! I also love your trivia... I knew I was getting Mortal Kombat vibes for a reason!

Yeah the entire basis for the Jack Burton character is that he's really supposed to be the sidekick and his friend Wang Chi is the real hero but nobody picked up on this until years after the movie came out. And since people are recommending other Kurt Russell films I highly recommend the movie "Miracle", all about the true story of the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team and Kurt Russell plays the coach Herb Brooks. With the Olympics going on it would be a great film for you two to enjoy.
