I really get your struggle. That MIDLF has done something really stupid. Although there is one thing to her defense. She was not only thirteen, basically still a child, but also in an extremely emotional unstable situation, having her partner she madly loved dieing. The anime doesn't go that far, but if anything, HER parents should have avoided that situation. But if they did, we wouldn't have our Erodere. I would not say it is an okay reason to get a child, although I think the english translation here was also not perfect. She wanted their love to bloom and not a "keepsake", that is how I actually understood that and I think the German subtitle suggested.
