Fightful Select caught up with AEW’s “All Ego” Ethan Page before Ring of Honor’s Final Battle Pay-Per-View this Friday.

Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp told Ethan that he loved how his feud with Tony Nese came along. Ethan told Fightful that he was happy that the fans got a connected and consistent story with Ring of Honor programming. Ethan added that they wanted to do it for fans to reward them with the value of getting the match with their subscription.

Ethan told us he found out minutes before the contract signing that Tony Khan would be in the ring for the segment. Ethan mentioned that Tony was the only one of the three authority figures in the building that evening.

Ethan said that Tony being in the ring added extra motivation because he got to look Tony in the eyes and tell him that he wanted to be one of the champions for his company and help carry the Ring of Honor brand.

When we asked Ethan if he received feedback for the segment, he said, “I am going to be honest with you. I was mad about the protein powder because it was a disgusting mess. If you go back and watch the footage, Tony Nese’s knee catches me directly in the cheek.” Ethan said he walked straight to the Doctor after the segment. Ethan says he went into his match with Kenny Omega “a little iffy" as a result of the knee. When asked if Ethan would wear a mask, he said maybe the Cody Rhodes mask. He did note he is good now.

He also told us that Tony Khan came up with the idea of the “I Quit” match. Ethan added that “Smart” Mark Sterling says that he quits on everything. Ethan mentions liking the idea of knowing that he only loses if he quits.

Ethan says he knows he will win, and no one can convince him otherwise.

He talked about his match against Kenny Omega from the December 5th edition of AEW Collision. Ethan said it was a great opportunity for him to get to showcase his skills in AEW.

Ethan says working with Matt Hardy was great. He said working with someone who has the status and stature was amazing. Ethan added that Hardy was willing to share a wealth of knowledge.

In closing, Sean asked Ethan about the “Ego’s Edge” and if he had ever had issues using it on someone. Ethan said there were a couple of times it did not go well. He said one that was awkward was with Darby Allin. Ethan noted the “craziest one” he’s done was in his first match in AEW. He said he hit Scorpio Sky with the Ego’s Edge onto a ladder, and in between the ladder was  Lance Archer. Ethan says he feels as close as you can be to perfecting it.
