Needless to say, the ending of the AEW Dynamite International Title match wasn’t supposed to go the way that it did.

Fightful reported that almost immediately following the Jon Moxley vs. Rey Fenix match, that Moxley had been hurt early in the match, and most believed it wasn’t actually the highly criticized piledriver that did the damage. Either way, Moxley walked out on his own power, and was checked on by the BCC and Tony Khan after the situation. Moxley implied to people that he was okay.

However, that wasn’t where the headaches ended. An audible was called during the match, and Rey Fenix won the AEW International Championship. Not only did it affect that match, but it caused immediate changes to AEW Dynamite, and possibly WrestleDream.

Fightful has learned the originally, a non- AEW wrestler was supposed to come out on AEW Dynamite and challenge Jon Moxley for WrestleDream. However, when the match result changed, so did the plan to come out and make a challenge. We haven’t learned who it was.

We were contacted by several talent on the roster that said while they like Rick Knox, there was heavy heat on him within the company, as this wasn’t the first time something like this has happened and a wrestler wasn't protected.

Maybe it was the original plan for Shibata and Eddie was an audible?

Filthy Tom Lawlor makes sense. He was supposed to be involved in Forbidden Door against Cole but the match got pulled. Maybe it was a makeup for that time. Give him a title match against Mox at another NJPW/AEW PPV.

The corpse referee strikes again, can't say I'm surprised

Josh Barnett mentioned the event on social media, is close to Mox personally, and has a a very legitimate Inoki connection. He seems like the most logical choice.
