Fightful Select had the opportunity to catch up with Cody Rhodes the night before he faces Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam in Detroit. Cody was signing Weight Belts and mentioned to Fightful that he thought the children's Weight Belts would be a "grand slam" regarding sales, but he learned that kids wanted regular Weight Belts just as much.

Cody told us that his Dad, Dusty Rhodes was 39 when he was born and said he was not a planned baby. Cody said his Teil sister had five baby books, but he had one, which was not even full. Cody said his parents did not document much, but there is "no heat."

Sean Ross Sapp mentioned that he enjoyed the documentary and liked discovering why Cody left AEW. Cody said when he gets questions about why he left AEW, and he answers them, it does not help him any because of the way media outlets sometimes cover it out of context. Cody says he will likely have a canned response.

We did ask Cody why he stopped appearing on BTE (Being the Elite). Cody said he believed it was the workload. He was really proud of “The Exorcism of Cody Rhodes” BTE episode. Cody would add that he was proud of everything he did in BTE. Cody says he could maybe make a return or a cameo one day.

Cody talked about his match against Seth Rollins at Hell in a Cell and that he and Seth do not like to talk about each other in interviews, but he would in this one because Seth did something that altered his career, and his respect for Rollins grew, even more, that day. Cody said the rumor of Seth Rollins being unsafe is not valid. Cody says he has been in the ring with many people in many companies and says Seth is one of the top three in our generation.

Cody says when Brock Lesnar is done with Sports Entertainment, he thinks people will realize what a force Brock Lesnar was in this business. He doesn’t think he nor Brock wanted a stipulation for their SummerSlam match.

Cody says everyone knows what title he wants, but the new World Heavyweight Championship would not diminish anything if he won it before the WWE Championship.

Fightful mentioned to Cody that in his documentary, he said, “WWE was home.” We asked him when did he realize it was home. Cody told us it was the night after WrestleMania in Dallas. He said he saw so many kids in Dallas, and they did not care what he did the three years before. He said that connection did it for him and that something special was happening.

Cody said the only time his confidence was rattled was when he tore his pec.

Cody received a fan question from Matt C. in Florida. The question was how he turned Matt Cardona and Chelsea Green’s wedding into a BBQ. Cody would say it was because he invited an uninvited guest to the wedding. Cody would also add that he would like to see The Indy God return to the WWE.

Sean, do you think we’ll ever find out what the personal issue Cody Rhodes says is the reason he left AEW? Apologies if you’ve reported this previously

The Exorcism of Cody Rhodes is one of my all-time favorite BTE episodes, what an end to a wonderful long-form story.
