There's been much speculation about Eric Young's status, and some of it is coming a lot clearer.

Young is rumored to appear at IMPACT Slammiversary, but had been under WWE contract since last year after leaving IMPACT. Last fall, he was approached by Triple H about returning to WWE in an in-ring only capacity, and signed with the company at the start of November 2022. However, he would ask for his release just a few months later.

Fightful Select has confirmed that Young asked for his release in April 2023, was granted it and finished out his 90-day no-compete clause just last week. We’re told by WWE sources that this request for release was right after the announcement of Endeavor’s deal with WWE, and this wasn’t a coincidence – Eric Young didn’t want to work with Vince McMahon after the Endeavor deal was announced and it was evident McMahon was back in the fold in an official capacity.

WWE sources confirmed to Fightful that Young had cited moral, creative and personal reasons as why he didn’t want to work with Vince McMahon. So far he’s the only talent we’ve confirmed asked for his release due to McMahon’s return. There were some creative plans for Eric Young scheduled for after WrestleMania that we’ve also learned about that we’re working to confirm.

We've reached out to Eric Young, but haven't heard back. We have heard that he's in town for tonight's IMPACT Slammiversary show.

Man that sucks. EY is such a good performer

Glad he’s getting what he wanted. Don’t ever want to fault a guy for his own morals.

When the rumours came out about Eric Young leaving WWE to return to Impact I was worried that he was released by the company. But the fact he wanted his own release because of Vince return to the company should tell you what you need know. It’s sucks he lost his job but at least he got to do so on his own terms

I can’t blame him for not wanting to work with Vince. I’ve never been the biggest Eric young fan but you should never have to work at a place where you’re uncomfortable with your boss. So good for him. He’s a better fit for Impact anyway in my opinion even if Vince hadn’t come back

rocksolid124

I wouldn't want to work for that pervert either.

David Feig

Wrestling would be in a better place if more people would take a stand like Eric Young did.

Terps

I wouldn't even work for Vince McMahon, much less Vince McMahn

Tori Melching

I personally never saw what others saw in Young. He was boring. But if he doesn’t want to work for McMahon then that’s his right. No different than any other job.

Also glad WWE was understanding enough to let him out.

Mad respect for EY. Far too few people in this world value morals over money.

In a world of Vince McMahons, be an Eric Young. This isn't implying virtually everyone is a sex pest, I just couldn't figure out anyone else that'd fit the statement. It's admittedly upsetting in a way that Eric was literally the only one(seemingly, anyway) that saw Vince coming back and was like, "Aight, fuck this." I feel like most of the WWE roster has no balls, big or small.

This exactly why you don't ever burn bridges

I'm pretty close to just blocking you at this point. We have a messaging option, and you're just a condescending asshole publicly and repeatedly
