Drew McIntyre is back, and set for a big Intercontinental Title program with Gunther, picking up where he left off after WrestleMania.

At the WWE Money in the Bank post-show press conference, Triple H dismissed reports of creative issues between McIntyre and WWE. WWE sources and sources close to McIntyre all confirmed that his deal was up in early 2024. Triple H said that he hopes that McIntyre was there for the rest of his career. While Fightful never reported creative issues between McIntyre and WWE, we can confirm that ensuring good creative was something important to McIntyre. While Drew was off TV and social media during that period, he was in continuous contact with Triple H and WWE, though he wasn’t informed of when or where he’d be drafted to. Sources close to McIntyre say that he has not signed a new contract as of yet.

Triple H also confirmed a Fightful Select report that Drew McIntyre had injuries that mounted up, and needed to get a couple of things fixed. He’d been dealing with injuries for quite some time, including gutting out the highly acclaimed match at WrestleMania with Sheamus and Gunther.

The return was kept very quiet, and both sides got suspiciously quiet in the weeks leading up to it. McIntyre was not brought to the presser and was spending time with loved ones while he had the chance.

Completely separate, but anything about Utami working GCW? That's pretty big for Stardom to allow their talent working in the US

really happy that he is finally back. I hope he will extend his contract soon and also that he gets some Championship run soon in front of live crowds

Honestly I see Drew staying. Michaels Cole on commentary during his return even said the rumours & reports of Drew McIntyre demise from WWE are untrue. To be honest I think WWE is the best place for McIntyre

Kinda wish he came back and attacked Rollins tbh

McIntyre is a good placeholder to keep Gunther occupied for the next month or two while he surpasses Honky Tonk Man's record - but I think it has to be Sheamus who finally dethroned him. Sheamus can't retire without having that belt at least once and The Brawling Brutes vs Imperium is a great way to end Gunthers reign and let him move into the world championship picture.
