CM Punk has angled for big return opponent in AEW (Patreon)

CM Punk is headed back to All Elite Wrestling, and some ideas have been tossed around for his potential return.
As outlined in recent Fightful reports, CM Punk will be heading up the Collision brand as its feature player. We’ve been told that a Chris Jericho program has been pitched, and that the two even had what was called a “productive meeting” in recent weeks in Florida. However, we’ve been told that CM Punk has been pitching another return opponent for the better part of a month.
Sources close to Punk have indicated that he’s become increasingly interested in working with Samoa Joe. Joe has not wrestled on All Elite Wrestling TV since AEW Revolution, when he dropped the TNT Title to Wardlow. However, he’s been a regular on ROH TV as their World Television Champion.
Samoa Joe and CM Punk haven’t wrestled each other in any capacity since August 2005, when they were involved in a four way elimination match at ROH Redemption that saw Jamie Noble win the ROH World Title. The two have a storied history across ROH, PWG and the UK, with their last one-on-one match on record happening in March 2005. Joe and Punk went to two 60-minute draws in ROH, and Joe also pinned him twice.
We can’t confirm whether the pitch/suggestion was for a one-off match or an extended program. Also, we have not confirmation on whether or not the match is actually happening, as AEW sources won’t discuss anything related to Collision in general, much less the matches planned.
