Ronda Rousey's creative changed significantly based on what it was originally pitched to be for WrestleMania.

Fightful Select had reported over the past months that originally, Ronda Rousey was scheduled to face Raquel Rodriguez at the WWE Royal Rumble, where she was scheduled to retain the WWE Smackdown Women's Championship. We were told that was the plan until December, when creative couldn't be agreed upon heading into the WrestleMania season.

By that time, Rhea Ripley had long been planned to win the WWE Royal Rumble, where she'd challenge Ronda Rousey for the Smackdown Women's Championship at WrestleMania. Over on the WWE Raw brand, a returning Charlotte would have challenged Bianca Belair for the WWE Raw Women's Championship. At the time these plans were in effect -- late November, early December, Charlotte had still been off television for quite some time, and the long-rumored Becky Lynch vs. Ronda Rousey match for WrestleMania was no longer happening.

Those familiar with the situation said that Ronda Rousey preferred and pushed for the tag team with Shayna Baszler that we now see playing out on WWE television, which is slated to end up with them challenging for the WWE Tag Team Titles. The match with Raquel Rodriguez was moved up a full month to a Smackdown at the end of December, which gained ton of acclaim. Charlotte Flair was brought back to television, and was booked to win the Women's Championship that day, without even herself knowing that she was set to.

Hopefully this leads to them creating some actual tag teams in the women’s division for Ronda & Shayna to feud with, because the lack of tag teams and the lack of thought put into the booking of those titles has been an issue since their inception.

Pro: More tag teams, to make those velts worth pursuing. Con: TV's been really... off lately. And it's made me wonder if the rumors of VKM getting back into creative meetings was a reality. I really, *really* hope not. I've liked watching the programming under H's time.

2023-03-26 19:42:15 Speaking of the tag titles, doubt it happens but hoping they have Becky & Lita defend as part of the 6 woman tag. If Damage CTRL wins, Freebird Rule goes into effect. If Team Becky wins, Lita & Lynch drop them to Shayna & Ronda when Ronda is 100%. Either way the titles get defended at Mania. Funny how the storyline to explain the title change was 'champs who don't defend' (even though one was injured for a month) and the new champs are literally just wearing the belts as props.

The Women's Division has been a noticeable sore spot well before the "Vince might be dabbling back in creative," rumblings. Long before, arguably since the jump.

Now I'm curious to know what Asuka original plans were for Mania. I can't imagine she wasn't on the card if this was still under Hunter.
