Ric Flair isn't the only person coming out of retirement, a familiar foe is as well if things get sealed.

Fightful has learned that there are plans in order for 69-year old Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat to come out of retirement to wrestle another match, sources close to Steamboat say. Fightful has learned that this is hardly a coincidence that the two foes are returning to the ring at the same time, and that there's a working plan to have the two involved in a match against one another, albeit not in a one-on-one format. Dave Meltzer revealed Flair told him that FTR & Flair vs. Rock N' Roll Express and "someone else." We're told that the working plan for that "someone else" is to be Steamboat. The match is slated for July 31 at the Starrcast event in Nashville, TN.

It would be Steamboat's first match since a 2010 FCW tag team match with his son against Caylen Croft & Trent Baretta. The match would also put both men at competing across six different decades. The two have worked with or against each other nearly 300 times, with the last being in 1994.

We have not confirmed that this match has been finalized for the show, but it's been in the plans for Starrcast for several weeks, with Steamboat meeting with Conrad Thompson in person. One of the angles for the event was to help provide Flair and Steamboat with memorable final matches, as neither man likely expected what was their last match to be so.

There are to be many heavy Jim Crockett Promotions elements featured in the event surrounding the match, we've been told. As of a couple of weeks ago the match wasn't finalized, but that was the working pitch. We're told that it still hasn't been signed off on by Tony Khan and is "far from a done deal" as well.

I dunno why FTR would team with Flair after the debacle from last year with DSOTR and the Plane Ride from Hell, but I'm guessing they have their reasons.

6 men enter. 4 men die.

Despite what the general public may think of Flair these days after that DSotR episode (or how much he further tarnishes his image with his boneheaded tweets), he’s still one of the most respected wrestlers of all time within the industry, especially by old school type guys like FTR.

True. The problem is that kinda opens up a sort of "tolerate the intolerant" situation where they start feeling like they can get away with shitty things because they're a big name. Like, I have no problems respecting legends for paving the way like Flair, Undertaker, and even Hogan as much as I hate to admit it, but we still gotta hold fuckheads accountable for their actions, but whether they learn from it all and grow as people is up to them. If they refuse to grow, fuck em. If they show in both actions and words that they've changed since then, cool.
