WWE Royal Rumble looks to head back to a familiar home.

Fightful has learned that WWE's Royal Rumble event for January 2023 currently has the Alamodome in San Antonio as the front runner. The event last appeared there in 2017, and it was the site for the 1997 edition. Nothing is official until the venue and location is officially announced. Last year's Summerslam location was being discussed until fairly close to the actual announce date.

The company has run Royal Rumble at domes or stadiums every year since 2019, and all but one year since 2017. The Alamodome is notable as it was the first dome WWE ran Royal Rumble at, and the only one for over two decades.

Andrew Zarian of Mat Men Radio noted recently that WWE is planning on running more dome shows per year than ever before, which lines up with Nick Khan's vision that we've heard of from WWE sources as well. We're told both Seattle and New Orleans had expressed interest in hosting the event.

Feels like they’d have to rely on a lot of locals to fill up the place, right? Not sure RR is the biggest draw for people to travel out, and San Antone’s not on many people’s bucketlist

I can’t read the Alamodome without thinking of Road Dogg in TNA
