A ton of shocking NXT personnel cuts came on Wednesday, with WWE telling Fightful "With the continued evolution of NXT 2.0, we've decided to part ways with some of the staff based in our Performance Center. We thank them for their many contributions throughout the years and wish them the best." Unanimously, the talent and staff familiar with the PC, NXT, and NXT 2.0 have said this is directly to remove numerous Triple H hires, with the exception being Allison Danger. WWE officials we spoke with didn't deny this, and even said as much in their statement, in kinder terms. This is seen by almost everyone we spoke to as a dismantling of the NXT that existed under Triple H.

This resulted in a huge overhaul, and much of the Triple H-era NXT names being let go of the company. Fightful will work to find out more, but WWE had indicated to Fightful that talent would not be included in the cuts, which gives a pretty strong indication that they'd viewed Danny Burch and Timothy Thatcher in a different light since both had been off of television, and helping coach at the WWE PC. "Hachiman" Hideki Suzuki was an on-screen performer in Diamond Mine, which has seen four of their original or originally planned members released. We're told there were no creative plans moving forward for Thatcher or Burch on screen.

There was no internal message that went out as usual highlighting the names and reasoning for the departures.

Scott Armstrong had been working in timing out the shows, and was a referee for years for WWE. He oversaw a lot of the NXT refereeing staff, and shouldered the blame for the direction that led to awkward refree spots during the Becky Lynch vs. Liv Morgan Day 1 match. We're told this wasn't why he was let go, however. At least one promotion has already expressed interest in booking Scott Armstrong as a wrestler, as he's known to stay in shape and was a good worker in his day. His father wrestled until he was almost 80. Armstrong was let go in 2020 and brought back at the urging of his brother, Road Dogg.

As for Road Dogg, he was seen as a key "Triple H guy," and along will Regal, was one of the most evident firings that pointed everyone to the notion that this was specifically moving people out to change directions from what NXT "was." Dogg suffered a heart attack earlier this year, but had been back with the company for several months working.

One of the names that surprised people the most within the company was Dave Kapoor, also known as Rainjin Singh. Kapoor had been with WWE for 15 years, managing Great Khali, but had previously served as Senior VP of Creative. He'd been spending time in NXT, and was said to have been unanimously liked and easy to work with, with people who worked in the company heavily praising him to Fightful when the news dropped.

Fightful had asked about William Regal being off TV last week, and were told there were no plans for him or an immediate authority figure on NXT television. He'd been scouting talent at the recent WWE tryouts, but we're told that when he was off television with no direction, it was one of the surest signs that NXT was no longer what it'd been for the decade prior. He was another Triple H favorite who helped shape the brand. Everyone that Fightful spoke to thought that Regal would be exempt from cuts regardless, but that wasn't the case.

Several people that we spoke to within NXT felt that Bron Breakker being scripted to kick the gold "X" in half was symbolic, and many didn't like it.

Another shocking name was Ryan Katz, who had been a driving force being creative aspects in NXT during a lot of their prosperous periods. People we spoke to have said that his was surprising considering his heavy involvement in production and creative.

Scotty 2 Hotty briefly spoke to Fightful after hearing the news and said that he wasn't surprised and saw the writing on the wall, which is why he got out of the company last month. Fightful has confirmed that Steve Corino and Jeremy Borash are still with the company, which we got numerous inquiries about.

They let go of Regal?!

TorchCrawler

The brain drain from these releases is absolutely massive.

How long does Shawn Michaels want to deal with this aggravation?

Bryant Heath

Triple H is dealing with health issues and they’re pushing his guys out during it? Seems to be in bad taste in my opinion.

Amber

The holidays must have been very uncomfortable for the McMahons. Damn.

AH

Don't forget the talent as well

Joshua G

This company deserves to fail miserably. What a joke.

How can you not have plans for Thatcher. How.

Anonymous

This is so disappointing bc at the end of the day everyone was striving too cultivate & train talent for the company. I’m sure they could of remained in their positions, as long as they embraced the New Vision & Directives that needed to be implemented.

Jesus Christ man...

Are backstage employees given same non competes as on screen talent? If so, are all of these 30 days?

KadeKrologue

What was Ryan Katz heavily involved in? Sentence seems to be cut off, but don't blame you since this is a LOT of stuff to take in

Seriously though, when’s the last time we got good taste from WWE?

Anonymous

Remember how good NXT was? Instead of getting THAT across the board, we get the creative of a bunch of people who can collect social security.

Justin A. Thomas

I think HHH is taking a desk job in Stamford and doing random legends appearances.

This is a hell of an attack.

LinzeeBee

Wow wow wow. They really don't want Triple H's heart condition getting better eh? Thankful for my subscription to keep in the know. Thanks Sean and team!

LinzeeBee

I read that as bringing creative aspects to production in NXT :)

This is a BEEFY bunch of news

Nick O’Shea

So who is actually in charge of NXT? If HHH is away because of health reasons and most of his inner circle is being let go, is Vince slashing and burning?

Dirty Jose

By signing wrestlers not because you value them but because you know someone else might and you want to fuck with that.

Has it ever been answered as to WHY Triple H is seemingly on the outs? Because NXT lost to AEW?

Magan Yusuf

I hate it here

How the hell does nxtuk keep dodging these cuts? Has Nick Khan not got to that line in the budget?

Shaun V.

Why do they hate black and gold NXT so much lol sheesh.

e d

At least they didn't cite budget cuts this time round.

This is just opinion but given how Vince McMahon has a distain for weakness and failure, he sees NXT's "loss" to AEW in the counter programming initiative as a failure so his thought process is time to clear house start over and cut costs at the same time. Looking back at the many stars out of the 'black and gold era' they seem to have given Vince a headache for what I can only describe as "knowing their worth". Fighting back against bad creative, taking time off for mental health (a weakness in Vince's thought process) and wanting better control/pay conditions. With the vision of NXT 2.0 and the NIL program it seems, to me at least, they are looking to go much younger talent wise. Where they can convince these impressionable but gifted athletes that they owe WWE everything for their 'opportunity' and can be exploited for their talents. Where they perform under a name owned by WWE, they can't make money outside of what WWE books for them and they can't make money from the WWE trademark name once they realise they could potentially make more money with more control once they gain popularity and consider leaving the company. Some people mention why NXTUK hasn't come under the same scrutiny and changes. Again just my opinion but, the contracts are way cheaper, production is cheaper as I suspect they use a lot of student/apprentice programs for production and most importantly NXTUK have yet to 'Fail' a test other than poor viewership on the network. AEW hasn't set foot on UK soil yet, there is no ITV 'World of Sport' thanks to NXTUK's existence and talent hoarding, for all intents and purposes it is succeeding in it's mission where NXT failed when it took on AEW programming. NXTUK is doing the job that it was created for in controlling the UK scene and not letting any competitor gain a foothold in the market by hoarding the great talent, using them to train the next generation. and given the pandemic situation the independent scene in the UK is very much at its lowest point where no rival is gonna emerge and contend right now. Should the pandemic situation and international travel improve dramatically to the point AEW does come to the UK and do big numbers despite any attempts by counteraction by NXTUK then I would suspect the same fate could fall on NXTUK as it would have 'Failed its mission'. The history is there with the XFL as soon as it tanked the plug was pulled, the only surprising thing was that Vince returned to it after the first failure. I suspect because it was his ambition/idea and the climate at the time suggested an NFL alternative was viable again, other peoples idea's that seemingly 'fail' are not given as much leeway. And after this long rambling post the TL:DR is NXT Failed in the Wednesday counter programming, talent out of NXT that may be older/wiser are less impressionable/grateful for the opportunity and more expensive so better to reimagine NXT to be a farm for talent who obey and are dont question their opportunity for less money and NXTUK is cheap enough and effective enough right now to control the UK market but for sure will come under scrutiny if that changes. in my opinion, This sucks and is not the right way to build the compelling stars for the future, and while I understand WWE's desires and goals as a corporate entity, I now no longer support that with my viewership or purchasing which is a shame as WWE has great talent they are just in the wrong environment for their full potential in all aspects.

Magan Yusuf

This feels all these cuts are done to spite HHH
