Fightful spoke with NEVER Openweight Champion "Switchblade" Jay White ahead of NJPW Battle in the Valley on November 13, and asked about a report from earlier this year. White confirmed to Fightful that there was in fact WWE interest, but disputed a lot of what else had been reported by other outlets.

White made it clear that he has never been approached by All Elite Wrestling, and never had formal conversations with the company about coming in. There were also reports that he signed a seven-year contract in 2018, which he denied. He would not specify the length of his contract.

"I was never or have never been approached in regards to AEW. Especially when they were starting up. I don’t know where that rumor came from. It’s just like everything else to do with wrestling in regards to wrestling, people just like to push shit out there as if it’s true and everyone just eats it up. No, I was never approached in regards to AEW. I don’t know where that came from," White said.

He continued, “It just hurts my brain. The only part of that where there was any truth is the very first part of it, talking about the start of this year and about (WWE). Anything after that, none of that is true. It’s completely false. People, I’m sure, they’re probably going to respond and say, ‘Oh, he’s just saying that because he’s not into telling the truth.’ But I’m doing you a favor and telling you the truth here—them approaching me and some contract I was on, both things 100% false.”

It should be noted that during the course of the interview, White outright said "I could very well be lying to you about everything," but got noticeably frustrated and wanted to clear the air on some of the reports.

Well, that's a whole bunch of nothing.

Dirty Jose

Was the report he's citing from Fightful or another outlet?

God, I can't wait for Jay White to be on NJPW regularly again. Or, even better: Signed to AEW. He's one of my favorite wrestlers in the world. AEW is my favorite promotion. I'd love it! Thanks for sharing this piece of the interview! I'm glad that he has not signed a 7 year contract with NJPW (more hope for him going to AEW).

I believe Dave Meltzer was the one who reported he had a 7 year contract. I could be wrong but I think that’s where I read it. I don’t know who reported the AEW speculation

"Clarifies" seems like a bit of a stretch based on the quotes provided

I Cannot wait for this whole interview to drop. Is it video?!

fightful

He outright says he doesn't have a seven year contract so yeah, he clarified. Thanks

So his contract could be up in 6 weeks, 6 years, or somewhere in between. Thanks for the clarification. The AEW part is great and insightful. The contract clarification teaser feels a bit misleading without additional detail.

fightful

He clarified be didn't have a 7 year contract, which is substantial, and a major talking point around his career. I think you're gonna be okay. You've been here since July, so you didn't subscribe for this story, and we don't give away every detail in the header or our paywalled posts.
