It's not just Fox and USA Network WWE deals with on a daily basis -- it's the interests of both company's affiliated streaming services. In part three, of our look at WWE's relationships with broadcast partners, we look at the streaming services.

When reaching out to one WWE source of influence about Fox not being happy about Peacock promotion, the WWE sources noted that had Fox wanted to pay for the rights to WWE PPVs to turn the tables, they could have bid for them for Fox's Tubi platform. Fox sources had reiterated to us that while there were some in the company that likely shared that frustration, they were happy to help promote major shows on Fox platforms because "what's good for the goose is good for the gander."

On the other side of the coin, the sole person that Fighful spoke with connected to Peacock said that WWE's performance on the platform has appeared to be "exceptional," with more eyes landing on WWE PPV events than ever before, and that the relationship between the two sides seems good. There has been heavy criticism within WWE that the Peacock platform that they moved to is less polished and less user-friendly than the WWE Network that they moved from.

There were significant resources put in to hiring staffers to optimize SEO for the WWE Network, but we're told that the policies for such would change from day-to-day, and by the time the platform ended in the U.S., it still wasn't fully optimized.

Although WWE doesn't have a streaming deal with Fox and Tubi we're told there's an ongoing issue with plans for a third-party wrestling company that had landed a deal with Tubi, which Fightful has since identified as Major League Wrestling. However, shortly before the deal was to be announced publicly in August, WWE were made aware of it. A source close to Fox that Fightful spoke with indicated that WWE did not respond favorably to the deal, which was to be announced imminently after WWE was made aware. As a result, the future of that third party deal was in question. In asking around for an official comment on the matter, Fightful did not get one from either MLW or WWE. Fox declined to comment.

Despite perceived coexistence between Peacock and USA Network we're told by Mat Men's Andrew Zarian that Peacock did not permit Fox or USA Network's social media to post videos from Summerslam. Instead, the platforms were limited to GIFs.

Note: The sources that we speak to do not represent Fox, NBC Universal, Peacock, Tubi, The USA Network or WWE as a whole.

Well gee if Vince doesn't consider AEW to be competition then what's the big deal with MLW having a great streaming deal? Unbelievable.

Wow. WWE really upset that a much much smaller promotion might get exposure? I’m shocked….🙄

Anonymous

Man, not shocking at all, but really stinks that smaller promotions have to worry about WWE's petty, shitty behavior.

Hope MLW can get something else. What a shame

Pretty Crappy from VKM

I know how people feel about it, but I understand entirely where WWE is coming from, and business-wise I would have had the same reaction if I were in the WWE’s shoes. The WWE will likely begin negotiations next year or 2023 maybe; I believe Brandon Thurston has said this numerous times. I know if I were negotiating, I would not want Fox to say, “we have MLW, so we’re not going to give you “x” amount of dollars.” MLW is taking potential revenue away from WWE; I get WWE not favoring this. Don’t you think Tony Khan would react the same if Warner put MLW on HBO Max? I’m saying as someone who loves all wrestling, WWE must increase stock value for stockholders. I think it's smart business on WWE part but sucks for the die-hard fan

Joel Wood

Vince doesn’t care if MLW has a great streaming deal. Just not with the company’s streaming service who happens to be paying them a billion dollars. It’s called smart business

Kyle Cotton

I was wondering why Tubi hadn’t gotten MLW streaming rights with how they’ve bought up wrestling library rights with Lucha Underground and CZW. Seemed like a natural fit

Calling Peacock “less polished and less user-friendly than the WWE Network” is the nicest way to put it. I’ve had access to Peacock since launch (via cable package) and I’m astounded at how much the platform sucks. Hard for me to identify which is worse between Peacock & HBO Max, which I consider the drizzling shits.

Peacock is THE worst streaming service I've ever used. It's like they hired a bunch of people that have no clue what they're doing and put them in charge. It's ridiculous.

Scott George

Wait. Tubi? You mean the teletubbies have a streaming service?
