I’ve been away for the weekend so I’m catching up on Rampage/SRS and Kate podcast. My take on the rankings is it’s like boxing. They matter BUT if there’s a compelling story that makes money, people can jump the queue also! See Tyson Fury’s return, he’d been away for years and came back looking a pile of sh*t beating 2 complete jobbers before he got thrown in with Wilder and really turned it up. But when things aren’t going on, there are mandatory challengers that the rankings dictate. Often, they fall at the last hurdle. Sometimes, you get the Usyk turn up and take it. Rankings in combat sports are guidelines. And I think AEW mirrors this well.
