If you've ever wondered the process for establishing WWE names, we have a bit of insight for you.

Alex Zayne, the former Ari Sterling, referred to the process as “hectic,” but said he knows that a lot of people have it easier. When it became clear he was going to be on WWE television, they had him compile a list of preferred names. After he sent a list over, he was told that they needed more names to choose from. After “Ari” was determined, Alex tried to push through “Zayne” but was told they couldn't do that – not because of main roster star Sami Zayn, but because Zayda Ramier had debuted on television and they sounded too similar. The name Ari had come from Jeremy Piven's character from Entourage “Ari Gold,” and Ari Sterling was a reference to that, as in “Ari Silver.” The actual name got cleared for use just a couple of hours before Ari Sterling's television debut.

Dear god. Imagine Steve Austin rocking up now. “Sorry pal, can’t use Steve because we’ve got Steve Lombardi on the books and Austin is a City. From now you will be SIRIUS AROMA! YEAAAAAAH THATS GOOD SHIT PAL AND SPRAY THE AROMA ON THE WAY TO THE RING GO ON, SPRAY IT! YEAAAAH THATS SUCH GOOD SHIT PAL!”

WWE had William Regal change his name from Steven Regal because they already has a "Steve".....Steve Austin.

Actually when Steve first started his career, he was told he couldn’t be Steve Williams because Dr. Death was already established. It’s common to not want two names sounding alike. At least it’s giving the wrestlers input instead of just choosing a name and saying fuck it this is scar you get

Ari Zayne and Zayda Ramier sound too similar, but somehow we're expected to know the difference between Kayden Carter and Kacy Catanzaro. Riiiiight.

Wulf

That’s not as bad, it’s not like the names are similar.

I think that’s the sarcastic point, Herman. There is no reason anyone should have trouble distinguishing between the names in either case.
