CM Punk is headed back to pro wrestling, and Fightful has learned a little more behind the scenes notes on Punk's preparation. In addition to doing training on his own, Punk has also done training for the Starz show "Heels." Fightful has been able to speak with some wrestlers and cast members who have worked with him over the past six months, who had very promising things to say about the former WWE World Champion. One source said that CM Punk looked "completely healthy," especially as compared to the tail end of his WWE run. Another source indicated that Punk was very good in the ring, to the point to where they wondered if he'd been training in private leading up to being in the ring with them. A third source had indicated that Punk was working so well in the ring it was as if he'd never left.

Wulf

AEW is gonna be wild, I personally didn’t watch at first but I’d tune in to see him and Bryan.

Can’t wait for next Friday! Live a mile from the United center so I feel very blessed to hopefully see this in person!

Randy Moss

I hope y’all ready

Punk about to put on classics?! Lfg!

Joetourious

Punk is blowing the roof off that place. They’re going to become a dome arena

Whatever they're doing with Punk-Darby, I'm All In. Get it? Sorry, I just turned 30.

Here We Go

Joetourious

I find that song so overrated. I want him to come out to AFI like he did in old school ROH

Kim Cee

Once I remembered that he was on that show, I realized it was a great way to sneak in some extra training under everyone's noses.

I’m getting so hype

The Best in The World!

Joetourious

I really hope his finish is the Pepsi plunge and the Anaconda Choke.

I'll believe it when I see it lol. Not saying it's not happening but still need to see it

It's admittedly astonishing, and not on a bad way at all, that he's been gone from the ring for 7 and a half years and yet people are saying it's like he hasn't missed a beat. It's like ring rust is a foreign term to the guy.

Honestly, I’m staying up until 4am to watch a one hour bloody show for this. I did some fantasy booking for this and I’d have the show open with Killswitch Engage hitting and MJF coming out and cutting a pure heel promo about how great his new entrance music is and how he wanted it for the Jericho match but he wouldn’t pay for it anymore than one night for the AEW fans. Have the main event be a Jericho match vs MJF (tag maybe with Wardlow vs Darby and Kingston say) and as MJF goes over (with diamond ring) have a masked guy hop the rail. GTS, unmask and Cult of Personality to end the show with Darby stepping up to him. Whatever they do will be fantastic but I just started thinking about this earlier. It gives everyone the rub required, debuts him strong, gives MJF mega heat, tees up Darby/Punk, keeps Jericho/MJF hot. It achieves a lot.

Rj Kelly

Well this certainly is promising. I’m curious how they present him and how this goes

Anonymous

And he going to be in that series of heels couple times in the show

Anonymous

I think they're probably gonna have MJF/Jericho's blowoff at All Out, but I like this idea.

David Pick

Patrick Henson - absolutely. David Blumberg - read it back, I held off MJF/Jericho too ;)

Has Fightful heard anything that indicates this show was put on the calendar to make sure that Punk's premier was in front of a live Chicago crowd just in case COVID swallowed up All Out and Dynamite/Rampage leading up to it?

Tony Bologna

Makes a good amount of sense that he was in shape for Heels. Nice to hear it’s carried over. This is a very exciting time in Wresting.

Christian is looking good and performing well after having a similar amount of time away. Would make total sense that Punk has been training privately if his interest in returning has been there since 2019. It was around that time that he changed his Twitter name from 'Coach' to 'Player/Coach' but maybe I'm reading too much into that as I am a massive Punk mark!

Makes me wonder if his return will be a part time once in a while type of run, or if it’ll be a more regular scheduled type of run. I’d understand if it was for PPV matches and promos on TV only, but man a part of me wants to see him work with guys after the excitement has died down in much smaller roles.

@p_wol

It's clobberin time!!

Elaquent

The end of cm punks time in wwe was hard to watch at times. That macho man elbow drop looked especially painful for him to do. Happy to hear he looks like he’s fully healthy

Rincewind

Just like Edge, if I was gonna come back to undoubtedly millions of dollars and a hard life on the road again, where gym and training time is a hard commodity to find; you better believe I'd be in the best shape of my life. Good for him.
