Tony Nese was released by WWE, and we confirmed last week he had a 90-day non-compete. When speaking to Wrestling Perspective, he confirmed he's already had some discussions with indie companies about coming in. Perhaps the most interesting topic is that Nese was told he wasn't going to be hired after his original WWE tryout because he was "short and white," and that wasn't what they were looking for at the time, according to Nese.

He also mentioned he found out about his Cruiserweight Title win the day of WrestleMania.

The full interview will air Friday on Youtube and Twitch.

As a progressive all about equity and rights for everyone, how in the actual fuck can they say they won't hire him cause of his race?

You're casting for a TV show. If your show is looking for talent who are Black, you don't hire someone who identifies as not Black. WWE is a TV product, looking to fill TV roles. At the time of the tryout, they were scouting all talent, but looking at specific tangibles to hire immediately. Nese may have been there to be checked out for later, or someone didn't know WWE was looking for something specific at that tryout but sent him anyway "just in case".

Okay, but that only works when it's a TV show like According to Jim, not a sporting event like Wrestlemania. Also, in terms of "identifies as not Black", you can't identify as a different race. As a different gender, yes, but you can't change your race because, for example, a white man like me will NEVER fully know or understand the struggles a black man goes through on a daily basis.
