Samoa Joe could be headed back to NXT, at least if talent have heard things correctly.

Fightful spoke to numerous NXT talent and staff on Friday who noted that they heard NXT (not any specific figurehead) was interested in bringing in Samoa Joe. Joe was released in April as a part of significant cuts to the roster, but there have been several wrestlers that people in the company have pushed to bring back. Over a half dozen talent in the company and another outside have heard that the interest on NXT's side is for a wrestling role if he can get cleared, and a producer role if he can't get cleared.

A few things we should specify, talent in a broad sense in speculating this, with some even believing that it's going to happen. Fightful has reached out to WWE officials but has not confirmed this with them, and have no indication that a deal has been made or will be from our side.

UPDATE: In an update on this story, officials in NXT have confirmed that Samoa Joe was briefly at the WWE Performance Center this week. We were not told why he was there. We did get confirmation there have been pitches within NXT to use Samoa Joe, however. We're told if he's not back with WWE, they're expecting him to be by this weekend. Triple H was a major part of making this deal happen, and wanted Joe back almost immediately after his release.

I wonder what his contract situation would be

Wulf

I would love this to be true. Had a lot of things that didn’t go his way and NXT could really need the boost at the top of the card.

First Alastair black…now Joe. Safe to say folks within WWE KNOW they fucked up

Andreas Bryhn

Hope this aint gon happen. Hoped for a "Mox" run for Joe. Free agent everywhere

ItsWildBoy

Sunday Kross retains his title, Samoa Joe attacks him while he is celebrating and that would freshen up the main event scene. #wishfulthinking

Magan Yusuf

What a turnaround.

I don't know what Samoa Joe or a Tommy End will do when their non competes expire. I am not surprised that people at NXT or WWE want to have them come back. I hope they do whatever makes them happy. From my perspective, that means not going back to a place that promises the moon and has a very poor track record of following through on that. But they would know from personal experience. Then again, money talks...but I'd personally love to see them go elsewhere and see what they can do.

Joe was great in NXT but man I he would have great matches in AEW. Joe vs Omega at Full Gear...YES!

Bottom line, I am a Joe fan and will watch wherever he lands. I just hope it’s outside WWE.

Would be a hell of a way to cap off TakeOver

Joel Wood

Give me Samoa Joe vs Karrion Kross. Joe vs Dunne. Joe vs Reed. Hell, Samoa Joe vs Adam Cole.

Brian Streleckis

If these rumors about Black and Joe are true and offers are presented to them to return, who's to say they'll accept? The market is wide open and they could also take advantage of third party affiliates that WWE have shut off to their talent. Joe getting specifically offered to return to NXT would likely just mean NXT money, not main roster money.

Fletcher DeRouen

Would be really disappointing to see him do that, considering how many dream matches he could have in a multitude of promotions, but in the end, if he wants to go back, he should

Joetourious

Fuck that. I wouldn’t resign. They just want them cheaper.

If he goes back and gets used, cool. If he goes back, has one program, and them disappears then I won't feel bad for him.

Joetourious

It would be the dumbest choice for them to go back. Artistically and financially.

Joel Wood

Samoa Joe isn’t a big third party guy. He appeared on Xavier Woods UpUpDownDown channel mostly but that’s owned by WWE. I don’t think “third party deals” would play much in to Joes or Blacks decisions. Blacks wife, Thea did most of their third party stuff. Twitch and cameo and all that stuff isn’t really a driving force in where somebody signs. Guaranteed money and creative plays more of a part than anything

Brian Bayless

If it’s his best offer then he should probably take it. Banged up and not a young guy. Probably his last chance at a good pay day in the ring

Kyle Cotton

I’m now imagining a face off between him and Kross to end IYH given that update.

Be cool if he was part of diamond mine

Kate Elizabeth

Do NXT and WWE main roster decision makers talk to each other?!

Good guy Joe ensuring that NXT and Regal have better security

Joel Wood

The NXT decision maker is Triple H so I’m pretty sure he communicates with Vince

Mickel

Selfishly I was hoping he’d pop up during Slammiversary.
