Referee Drake Wuertz has been a lightning rod for controversy among some in wrestling, and Fightful has learned that he had his duties reduced in recent months. Formerly the head referee in NXT, that role now belongs to Darryl Sharma. Wuertz was also considered for the job of timing matches within NXT, but the spot was offered to Scott Armstrong, who had briefly been furloughed from the company. We're told that Road Dogg was instrumental in getting Scott Armstrong back in the fold. Wuertz was also not offered the back-up timing position, which can and has also led to timing matches for 205 Live. Instead, DA Brewer has taken over those duties.

However, it didn't stop there. Fightful was informed that Wuertz was either formally or informally suspended earlier in 2021, and wasn't allowed at the Capitol Wrestling Center for better or for worse for a short period of time. Last year, when an article from David Bixenspan emerged, we're told several higher ups were "horrified" by what they read. This was only compounded by his video from backstage in NXT on Wednesday afternoon, where he zoomed into a County Commissioner's meeting about mask mandates to claim that mandates make child sex trafficking easier. We're told that upon his return to the CWC he appeared to have subdued many mannerisms that got him "substantial heat" with many at the Performance Center.

Many that we've spoken to in NXT are surprised he's still there, and fear that his radical beliefs may have actually helped him from being fired.

That video was beyond deranged, and Drake is clearly unstable.

I have no clue how he's been allowed to hang on this long but when you make a scene like that while wearing your work uniform, how can that possibly lead to anything other than a dismissal?

Thomas Middaugh

I feel his strong beliefs have prevented him from being fired, it's America after all . Having a working knowledge of what Bix published last year, I'm not surprised he's been demoted and has had responsibilities taken away from him.

Dan Franks

That place is a cancer and he's one of the (multiple) tumors they refuse to get rid of.

Busby

Hunter better get his boy..

Matt Curran

Has anyone else seen the Q doc mini series on HBO? It’s wild to think that Drake is one of many who follow that

I wonder if him doing that while wearing NXT gear will lead to more disciplinary actions against him, since it could be viewed that he was representing the company during that mess.

Cameron Hutton

I get the feeling he is a HHH guy, will always get the backing from him.

Magan Yusuf

He’s brainwashed

Matthew Graham

That man needs help. If you actually believe what he is say or not you can see that he is in an altered state of mental health and needs to see someone.

Chaotic global times certainly exposes the crazy in some people... My god, what an idiot.

"... his radical beliefs may have actually helped him from being fired." Dear lord. The longer they tolerate this, the more likely his "subdued" mannerisms will get them (WWE) in trouble.

Brian Bayless

That video was incredibly disturbing and if it took place on company grounds he could be gone for good.

Given who WWE is run by, it's really not surprising that he's apparently not fired.
