WWE has started what appear to be annual April 15 releases today, cutting Mickie James, Billie Kay, Chelsea Green, Kalisto, Tucker, Samoa Joe, Bo Dallas, Mojo Rawley and Wesley Blake.

Of those wrestlers, we've been told that Mickie James had been vocal backstage about her desire to continue wrestling, we're also told by talent that word emerged this week Samoa Joe had expressed his desire to wrestle of late, but was not cleared by WWE.

Word of WWE cuts actually made its way around a couple of months ago. However, we've been told that multiple people among the cuts had inquired about whether or not they were on the chopping block and were told they weren't going to be among them, only to be cut. One wrestler told us "it's just an annual reminder that this is a company, not a family."

Damn shame...

It sucks, in the end they are a business. However they have lost my interest in Monday, Tuesdays, and Friday night because of it though.

Heartbreaking

I wonder if the talent will know once the cuts are finished or are they still sitting around waiting for the phone to ring

Bummed for Mickie, she really seemed to get a raw deal since coming back. But hopefully we get to see her in AEW, where they could most definitely find a way to use her. Joe was their best announcer by a long shot.

“It’s just an annual reminder that we work for a business not a charity” should be the last line. I hate this concept that people think they have a right to be employed. Employment is a privilege and businesses do this all the time. It’s called corporate America. I hate that anyone loses their job. I’ll miss Joe and Mickie but if being a family is code word for continue to pay me to not do anything (which is what most of the releases were doing) then they’re probably right because that’s not how businesses work

Joel. This is a shitty comment, and you should probably take WWE's business model into consideration as a result of this. Your lack of empathy veiled with "I hate that anyone loses their job" is evident. Refer to Karl Anderson's contract negotiations with Triple H. There's nothing charitable about the exchange of creativity and physical well being for money. You being a jerk and implying so is weird. I should be surprised, but considering the nature of our conversations in the past, I'm not. Thanks

fightful

Yes. You're being a jerk, these are false equivalents, and you're being ridiculous implying "release or do nothing" are the only options. You are a part of the issue if you say that. Thanks

Wait, Mojo got fired, too? Man, why does this feel like it hurts the Andre The Giant Battle Royal and any future winners more than anything?

Joel Wood

Okay. Well on one hand we say WWE is hoarding talent that they don’t plan to use but on the other, we get mad if they’re released. Can you honestly tell me that guys like Mojo, Tucker, Wesley Blake, we’re going to do anything significant? Not counting them personally because they seem like great guys(I don’t know them as well as you obviously) but what were they honestly going to do? Joe, Chelsea and Mickie legitimately shocked me. Everyone else it’s like.... why? Why not be glad that they can now go other places. Can you honestly say guys like FTR, Miro, Gallows, Anderson, Cardona aren’t better off now than they were a year ago? Most of those guys were snatched up as soon as those 90 days were up. I just don’t get it. If they didn’t get released, people would be complaining that they don’t get used. So either way, WWE are assholes because, outside of the names I mentioned, none of the others were either being used or being used properly. I’m honestly trying to understand here. If you think I’m a jerk then so be it but my point still stands and I’m sorry if that makes me sound insensitive. I’ve lost jobs. Plenty of them. It sucks. But what did you expect them to do? They can’t put EVERYBODY on tv.

"it's just an annual reminder that this is a company, not a family." This says it all for me.. Hope everybody lands back on their feett, doin what they love.

Like just use them man. If I was Vince and had GD Mickie James on my roster she’d be a pillar of that divison along side Ripley, Charlotte, and Blair. We have people say either “you guys wanted them out, so now they’re out” WE WANTED THEM OUT BECAUSE THEY WEREN’T BEING USED. I’m so sick of this BS narrative that we’re being difficult when all we want is for creatively satisfying stories for these wrestlers. Green’s been yanked around by them for years and now that she actually can go they release her. It’s frustrating that they have this wealth of talent that they refuse to use. If they were using them properly we wouldn’t be wanting them to leave. It’s just heartbreaking and frustrating because me personally I love wrestling with everything and seeing people get thrown aside like toys and not used then being released is awful. Sorry for the rant. Hope everyone has an awesome day.

Bryant Heath

Because it does. They literally had him win the Battle Royal then couldn’t find anything to do with him. It’s frustrating on every level.

That "this is a company, not a family" line sums it all up for me.

Joel Wood

There isn’t. They have 5 hours between Raw and SD and 65 people(not counting those released) on their roster and more in development and NXT that will need to get called up. Other than Joe, no other male on that list provided any value to the company. I’m sad for the iiconics, Chelsea, and Mickie but the women’s division is so deep that cuts are bound to be made.

The thing that gets me is that they have an army of writers and they can't find something for these talented people? It's not complicated, split up the writers and asign them groups of people to look after. Take input from the talent in needed to help with direction of characters. Touch.base with other writers to help weave storylines in and out between them. Much is made about how great the attitude era was bit the real beauty was how over the mid card and even people lower on the card was. They all were involved in stories and doin stuff. It's not rocket science, it's been done.
