Rob Gronkowski asked out of his WWE deal, per the terms of it, which led to his departure from the company. Wrestling Inc reported he exercised the release clause in his contract, and Fightful has learned  that most on the Raw side of things didn't even have to deal with Gronk at all, and weren't really in the loop on his status with the company. One told us "he was still considered a Smackdown guy."

Those that we've spoken too -- even those with a reputation of being easy, helpful, and good to work with, all had negative things to say about working with Gronk after his WrestleMania fiasco. There was heat on Gronkowski after his hesitation to do his scheduled spot put the WrestleMania filming two hours behind schedule. One top name on the roster called Gronk "A Fuckin' clown who we are so much better off without."

In recent weeks, few had to deal with Gronkowski, but his WrestleMania appearance seems to have made an impression.

Imagine treating someone like shit because he was scared of getting hurt.

fightful

Imagine holding up the entire filming of a major show for two hours in the middle of a pandemic because you signed a WWE contract and wouldn't take a two foot drop into the waiting arms of a dozen of the WWE PC's biggest dudes

CSDX

Dude, the guy was scared. Why shit on him for an emotion that was outside of his control?

fightful

HE SIGNED A WWE CONTRACT TO BE AN IN-RING PERFORMER. What was he expecting to do?

CSDX

Look, I'm just saying that he couldn't help being scared. I'm not saying he didn't know what to expect.

So if he didn’t run a crossing route in the middle of the field when that was the play that Brady called just because he was afraid to get hurt; don’t you think Brady would have gotten in his face?

fightful

Exactly, and nobody was rude to him. Vince showed him how to do it!

On the flip side, WWE should not give out contracts to celebrities without some assurance they can work. Perhaps they thought Gronk would do a 2 foot drop given he takes much bigger hits in a football game. Although I'm shocked they didn't change the spot to avoid a 2 hr delay....

They 100% should have filmed Vince showing him how to do the spot for a future WWE24 show or something

Gotta say you’ve done a great job covering the failed Gronk signing. It really was a complete failure.

5 bucks says they try to sign him again
