It seems like wrestler contracts all expire at or near the beginning of January. Is there a particular reason for this? Wouldn't it make sense for a company to stagger them a bit so they don't (potentially) lose a huge chunk all at once

Related to above - why don't companies negotiate with wrestlers before the expiration, sort of like how sports teams negotiate extensions. While this pseudo "offseason" in wrestling with lots of transactions has been pretty fun, and probably will be even more fun as more stuff comes out, it seems like companies are setting themselves up not locking down talent longer.
