Penta and Rey Fenix appear to be poised to head to WWE, but the road there has been tumultuous.

Fightful reported last week, that Penta openly told some close to him that he’d already had conversations with WWE this Summer and indicated he didn’t want to go through NXT, and that he and his brother Fenix were a package deal. We’re told by WWE sources that the latter wouldn’t be an issue as they’ve long been interested in Fenix anyway. Penta pushed back on reports of such, but numerous sources close to Penta also said he claimed that he’d be in Orlando this week, but didn’t specify if it was a Performance Center visit. Penta does have a booking in Mexico on Thursday.

From the AEW side, there were several who said they suspected something like this had happened, but still were shocked to see it in print. They’d offered Lucha Bros. a new deal that was supposedly the same as what Penta has told people WWE is willing to provide.

Keep in mind, various details are claims from the talent directly, and because of the contractual nature, haven’t been confirmed. Among those claims from Penta to friends, include the claim that his deal has already expired. He remains on the AEW roster page, and there were several within AEW that said if his deal actually hasn’t expired, the company could tack on injury time to both. A claim internally was that the Lucha Bros. didn’t want to do business in the appropriate ways that many exits from the company, and other companies in general, have done in the past. Multiple sources in AEW today believe Penta pushing back on the reports so his brother will be able to leave AEW without contractual hurdles.
