Fightful’s Corey Brennan recently sat down with TNT World Champion Tate Mayfairs for an interview about Soft Ground Pro Wrestling and his reign as TNT World Champion. You can check out the early notes below.
Mayfairs noted that his appearance in Soft Ground Pro Wrestling came together very quickly, in the space of a week and a half plans were made and he traveled to Uganda. Tate also said that he wanted to bring the TNT Championship all over the world, and seeing MxM and other talent travel to Uganda led him to making the trek. He also stated that he wanted to give back and it was important to him to help make SGW a safer promotion for the wrestlers. His schedule was also hectic, as he was wrestling the same day he flew back from Uganda to the UK.
Tate said that bumping on the soft ground ring hurt less than some professional wrestling rings he has competed in during his career. Tate argued that taking his TNT World Title to SGW strengthened his case as the most legitimate world champion in wrestling today, and noted that it was the highlight of his title reign so far. Tate also put over his opponent in SGW, Jordan Loverine, who Tate said had incredible potential and wrestled better than several talent he’d worked with in the UK. Tate also shared that the decision for him to wrestle for Lord White was Boombash Daniel’s idea.
Tate also spoke of the hardships that the SGW talent go through, from random drops in electricity and water to talent sleeping off possible bouts of malaria, noting that despite these hardships, the talent did not sway in their passion for wrestling. Tate has set up a Go Fund Me in support of SGW, which you can find the link to below.
Tate mentioned names such as Jordan Oliver, Angle Blanc, Michael Oku and Nic Nemeth as future opponents for his TNT World Title.
In terms of promotions, Mayfairs noted that he wanted to wrestle everywhere he could, including OTT in Ireland, returning to BZW in Belgium and more time in the US now that he has his work visa.
Reflecting on his time in NXT UK, Tate noted that there has not been a better company to work for throughout his wrestling career than WWE. That being said, Tate noted that he has a vision for his wrestling career that does not require a return to WWE.
Mayfairs also called his shot, noting that he wants to win the Progress Super Strong Style tournament this year and become both Progress and TNT World Champion.
