Cameron Grimes was unfortunately the latest WWE release.

Grimes revealed on April 23 that WWE called him and informed him of his release. Fightful Select reiterated this week that despite it being reported by other outlets, we’d not confirmed that releases were done, or if and when there would be more. Von Wagner, Saurav, Veer, Jinder Mahal, Xia Li and Xyon Quinn were also release.

We’re told that Cameron Grimes’ release was unexpected by many in the company for various reasons. One, was that his skill set and track record did not match with others that were cut form the company. While he’d been with WWE for over 5 years, he’d gotten over in NXT, and seemed to constantly improve in the ring. Another reason the release was a surprise was that Grimes was at last week’s Smackdown, and actually a regular at TV, even when he wasn’t being used.

Grimes is expected to get booked heavily outside of WWE on the independent circuit, with numerous top indies already indicating to Fightful that they plan on booking him.

I really hope he tears it up on the indies or TNA for a while. I think he would get lost in AEW if he went directly there. Love that dude and wish him incredible success

WWE could have worked him into the Uncle Howdy story line some how as he would have been great.
