An update on the Smackdown Tag Team Titles.

This past week on WWE Raw, new tag team championships were presented to R-Truth and The Miz, making them the World Tag Team Champions. We're told that there is a plan in place to do the same for Austin Theory and Grayson Waller, which would see them get an updated design as well.

The last we heard, the plan was to call them the WWE Tag Team Titles instead of the Smackdown Tag Team Titles, which has been confirmed. This helps prevent any issues regarding the draft, and avoids any awkward trading of championships.

The current lineage of the Smackdown Tag Team Titles goes back to when the brand split was reinstated in 2016. The set of titles on WWE Raw actually go back to 2002, which were the set of titles established for the Smackdown brand back then. The lineage of the original WWF Tag Titles from 1971 ended in 2010.

I just saw in the SmackDown preview email from WWE that they did refer to Theory and Waller as the WWE Tag Team Champions so there’s confirmation there.

Rei
