A returning superstar has begun to learn how to produce in NXT.

Back in February, Shawn Spears made his return to NXT with a chair attack on Ridge Holland, who Spears has continuously been working with since his return to the company. Outside of this feud however, Spears has taken up another role.

Fightful Select’s Corey Brennan reports that starting on the April 16th edition of NXT, Spears began shadowing NXT producer Johnny Moss, helping to produce both women’s matches on last night’s edition of the program. Other former WWE superstars who are producers in NXT are Matt Bloom, Oney Lorcan and Wesley Blake among other names.

In speaking with several NXT Talent, Fightful Select has learned that Moss is liked universally in NXT from a talent perspective as both a coach and a producer.

It is unknown if Spears is planning on making a full time transition to producing. Spears told Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp recently that his responsibilities expand beyond the ring.

Shawn had an interview recently and he said that it was his goal to eventually move onto producing when he was done wrestling on tv. This doesn't surprise me.

I do like this trend of more and more wrestlers getting an opportunity to do some future career stuff if they are interested in that side of the business
