Great insights, Jess! I really liked your articulation of the kinds of things that Simon had to puzzle piece together when creating the group. There are the skill based aspects, but there are also the things you described like team chemistry, strength/weakness, and how finding complimentary sets is so necessary to build a group that can handle stresses and survive. When you were describing that, it made me think back to their first reality show, XG's 3 Meals A Day, where we get to see how Jurin is the leader, but Chisa is Mom and Hinata is Dad for the group. I thought it was enlightening that you still feel some pressure or nervousness when giving a critique on something when doing analysis in a reaction. From the outside, you look very comfortable and in your element discussing these things. It's not surprising, I guess - commenting on things and putting that comment out there runs the risk of people misinterpreting something you say, especially when it's not interactive feedback. I'm really happy that you push through that to do these reactions and analyses, because it really allows people (like me) to learn from your expertise and joy in dance. Your comments during the Mascara recording session reminded me that, if you have time and want to see more of Simon coaching the members, there's some of that in XTRA XG #11 ('SHOOTING STAR' Recording) https://youtu.be/o4PFe13WdUw?si=jejUd79WiQDVuyYg That actually came out before XTRA XTRA and was one of our first glimpses, I think, of the relationship the members have with Simon.

OOOOH that looks pretty interesting! I may have to check that one out!!! Thank you so much for the extra info to guide me with that! I love it! And it means a lot that I wasn't over articulating that section where Simon was very plain and simple with haha!

Skill and nerves aside, if you compare the way Juria and Chisa sing, you can see thing Simon is talking about with Chisa in terms of involving the audience and the theme they’re trying to express when she sings. With Juria, when she sings, the magic for her is connecting w the audience and bring the audience into the narrative of the song she’s singing, she’s relaying the message of the song to them. Whereas with Chisa, vocals aside, she tends to close her eyes and disconnect w the audience to get lost in her own world in the song she sings. That’s nice to be putting your heart into the performance but the audience is on the outside looking at you performance. That’s also great but as the audience, you can feel the message and empathize w the songs narrrative more when the performer involve you in the narrative. Like looking at someone talking to someone else vs someone talking directly to you. For Juria, that’s like a natural reflex for her. She’s still immerse in the song she sings as the narrator but her audience has a role in the narrative. And for Chisa, that’s something she needed to learn. It’s a performance aspect in singing a lot of ppl don’t talk about often w vocalist. It’s what makes a skilled vocalist and a skilled performer.
