Shining diamond goes all the way back to their pre debut little "survival show" (no one was up for elimination or anything they were just put through a lot of challenges and showed a lot of the work up to debut. Carats often will say "slip in to the diamond life" to new fans in reference to the lyrics of this song and it's why we are Carats so definitely much sentimental value here. They actually sampled this song/updated it in their newest album so it feels very full circle. Also they DO be singing live haha. I would love to see you react to more of their live performances so I might think on which ones I might want to recommend but I'm enjoying your ATEEZ and XG reactions as well so I don't want to overwhelm you or just spam Seventeen til the end of time haha.

Thanks so much for this reaction! And my oh my the call out in your intro made me have to fan myself a bit~ So you did really great in your SVT trivia this video - you were correct in every names guess! The fandom motto of “slipping into the diamond life” originated from this song, and the CARAT name was also inspired by this song! For more context, Shining Diamond was their first official original song as the full group and was performed like, 6? times? on their pre debut tv show, which was not a survival show but rather a “prove yourself worthy of debut” show. They did in fact perform this song alongside Adore U during their debut promotions, but I couldn’t find any choreo video or fixed full cam videos from that era so this is really the best video I could find! It’s funny you picked up on those 2000’s/early 2010’s vibes because if you actually look at clips of their styling back then it’s /very/ obviously and hilariously dated! At the time, most boy groups were doing edgy kind of concepts and SD was actually emulating that style, which is why everyone was SHOCKED when they debuted with such a bubbly, fun concept as AU! It was a breath of fresh air at the time and led to a whole new era in the Kpop boy group industry. For the choreo itself, I think this is probably the only one where they do they kind of “sit on each other” thing, but they definitely use each other as props pretty often. They part at the opening with the kind of curtain reveal before Vernon you very aptly called “melting” and there’s clips of Hoshi leading a practice where he tells the members to “melt away like ice cream”! And the bit where they raise one am up in the chorus/pre-chorus they’re singing about a promise- if you look closely, on their raised hands, they stick their pinky fingers up to symbolise their Seventeen rings, which are representative of their relationship as SVT. During the pre-debut show, the CEO takes away those rings in episode 1 (a pretty asshole move, if I say so myself) and tells them to earn them back along with their debut through their performances.

What a WILD way to be introduced into the industry haha! I am so glad they were able to debut without anyone "getting eliminated" and I know during that time where they debuted, the "survival kpop group show format" was ALL the rage (and still is in some cases haha) All in all I absolutely LOVE the fact I can understand this group's overall intention and the fan base so much more!!! And your intro was soo deserved!!! You helped so much!!

Super bummed I missed the open request call-exam season was a doozy! Hopefully I’ll get some HipHop and Vocal unit stages in there someday to help with names (even if they aren’t quite as dance focused) and yes this track is truly og and it is heavily reliant on that thigh strength!
