Hmmm, I agree with you about meeting students where they are at, but I don't agree that it is entirely on the instructor or in this case the show to do this. I feel like they should meet in the middle. I think the show should have provided more instruction/ support. However, I would think that the type of tasks laid out for the contestants would be detailed before they signed up for the show. If that is the case, shouldn't the dancers get the most from their experiences and approach things with an open mind? I guess I am a humble type of person, I don't mind looking silly or failing at something, because I feel like failure is a part of learning. Santa is a big stickler for approaching things with an open mind and having a good attitude. If you get to season 2 you will learn why, and it has some disturbing connotations. He is a phenomenal dancer but how he got there so young is a bit heart breaking.

This is a great way of looking at it and I would agree with you here! I also come from the lens of having to have had to figure things out by myself to be where I am today so I am naturally more sensitive to helping people! I respect your perspective here and I didn't think that the leaders necessarily had to be the ones to meet them where they are, but be more understanding of the potential setbacks they experience because they have to figure a lot of it out amongst themselves if that makes sense!
