It's so generous of Dreamcatcher to give me another obsession-making cinematic finding-hope-to-find type of rock track after Break the Wall. Rising came so close to that in VersuS VillainS too, but this one had that very sombre and very sad wind-down moment that really makes me let my guard down completely before I can be swept back up again so uhhhhhhhhhhhh yeah, I'm not alive after this. I am so curious to see the OT7 version! I hope there will be a dance performance video that they shot while shooting the MV so Siyeon is there to make a good comparison. Otherwise, I'm also fine with waiting until Siyeon hopefully returns hale and hearthy. 🤤 There is a chance she might attend the tours so who knows. She reassured fans recently that she is not in a serious condition. I just hope she isn't pushing herself to be there for fans before she is ready just to avoid disappointing us though. As Aislin said, Hwang Sooyeon probably did the choreography again. She was actually also the dancer who completed the 7-people pictures in the choreography where necessary, and the one who caught Yoohyeon's belt before anything could have happened! She truly is a hero. I think there were quite a lot of references to the OOTD dance as well. Considering she *didn't* choreograph that one, it must have been an interesting experience to create a new choreography to be part of a series of dances that she didn't choreograph for in the previous chapter. I wildly hope for another interview with her that breaks down her other choreographies like she had for Scream and Vision. (By the way, one of the reasons I suspect she didn't choreograph OOTD is because she was busy with her own solo debut and didn't have full time - she choreographed Shatter after all - and her song slaps. I recommend it. She appears as S8YN on platforms.) Onto the lore. *cracks knuckles* So, I'll start from OOTD and onto what we have for JUSTICE now. The ARG for JUSTICE is still ongoing so there might be missing information yet to be revealed that ultimately changes my interpretation. (Also disclaimer that all of these things are pretty up for interpretation as well, so mine is definitely neither "correct" or even a consensus opinion.) I will also focus on story elements and not comment on thematic stuff. In the lead-up to the OOTD release, two accounts popped up. ymenehcra99 was someone who found that they had social media accounts they don't remember creating, with cryptic and ominous messages about a crown that they didn't understand. They were rightly freaked out by this, and also documented many instances where they acted strangely to other people in their lives but had no memory of doing so. It seemed like they were either missing memories or had a doppelganger. But as they tried to understand more of what was happening, they started becoming more obsessed with the *crown* mentioned in the messages. Eventually, that was all they thought about and they really blew up their life to find it. Meanwhile, the second account, 9mynameis1, was a mutual follow of theirs who sounded like they might be a real-life friend. They were worried for ymenehcra99 and were trying to understand what was happening to them. (Many secret messages, videos, soundwaves, real life location drops, etc. ensued. Can't go into too many details here but long story short, crown might be a thousands-year old relic currently in a “museum”, and ymenehcra99 was being baited into an “interview” about it by an external source –C Company– that wanted to ensare her for the crown, with the promise of wearing the crown. They disappear afterwards. Anyone interested can check out the following website for all the events of the OOTD ARG. https://dreamcatcherarg.carrd.co/ ) In the secret OOTD teaser video and then in OOTD itself, we were in the POV of a third person, SHASHA. They seemed to be interested in Dreamcatcher. This interest however got the attention of ymenehcra99. SHASHA started receiving the same kind of cryptic messages about a crown and started becoming obsessed with it just like ymenehcra99 did. By the end of OOTD, we can see them grow increasingly erratic chasing imagery of the crown and eventually finding their way to Dreamcatcher, dancing under a projection of the crown. Last moments show JiU placing something on SHASHA’s head and SHASHA falling down on the ground, glitching and disappearing along with the Dreamcatcher members. At the later stage of the ARG, we also get a treasure hunt that gives us snippets of an audio recording, showing a conversation between the 7 Dreamcatcher members about luring sacrifices for the crown and needing 100 of them. It sounds like ymenehcra99 was their 99th victim and SHASHA was chosen to be the 100th. They were also hostile against each other about getting all the victims for the crown. Each wanted the crown for their own and almost started fighting then and there about who “deserved” it but didn’t because they were still 1 sacrifice short anyway and they threatened each other about how if any of them went down she would take the others down with her. During all of this, 9mynameis1 kept investigating what happened to ymenehcra99. JUSTICE promotions began with a new chapter for the ARG full of live location drops, encrypted codes and callbacks to people who were chasing clues for the previous chapter from C Company. Clues from a mobile app that had you play a quiz game to discover which parallel dimension you would have the most chance for survival - the dimensions were the past Dreamcatcher storylines Nightmare, Dystopia, Apocalypse and VersuS. The clues there eventually also led to a YouTube channel called Ghost Story Catcher that started doing weekly updates about the phenomenon of people travelling to parallel dimensions. Their third episode had a secret informant sharing their own story about having a group of 7 other friends – the 8 of them were close but the other 7 eventually ended up being drawn in by C Company and the crown, they used to be gentle people but they changed in the process, etc. After JUSTICE came out, a previous half-clue got its second half. An email sent by C Company was a “ripped” paper pdf. The ripped paper had writing that was cut short. The restored paper told the story of 8 people, one sacrificing themselves to save the other 7. The 7, seeing their friend’s sacrifice, came to their senses and allied together to fight against the source of the corruption, with a new will to fight. I think this is basically what the JUSTICE MV was showing. The ending scene also had the 7 members looking at the distance where the destroyed crown used to be, followed by us seeing an 8th person come into the frame behind them. (Also, in the MV, Siyeon was probably messaging 9mynameis1.) My interpretation is this: The 7 Dreamcatcher members were the first targets of the crown. After they were ensnared, they were motivated to accomplish the crown’s goal of having 100 people sacrificed to it. The crown (and maybe C Company too) gave them power and popularity so that they would have influence over others and lure in victims. Of course, playing into their hedonistic desire for power, it even made it a competition among them. By the time the 99th victim, ymenehcra99, came around, the 7’s former friend, 9mynameis1, was able to follow these traces. Keeping track of what happened to ymenehcra99, 9mynameis1 was finally able to find and reconnect with the matter of their 7 friends. Maybe, since the 100 victims were complete after SHASHA (end of OOTD), now the 7 members were fighting each other and being threatened by the crown at full power. I think, seeing this, 9mynameis1 ended up sacrificing themselves to try to prevent the crown from hurting their 7 friends. Seeing this became a wake-up call for the 7 so they banded together and defeated the crown. So, OOTD was the story of the descent of innocents into the maw of malevolence because of a desire for power, some becoming victims (the 100) and others becoming villains themselves (the 7). JUSTICE was the story of how heroes are born through a wish for justice and the protection of the innocent, and the will to fight for these things. In this case, it was the minor villains mending their ways and becoming heroes by going against the main villain. And, uh, well, I think that sure is neat. Thanks for coming to my TEDTalkDC. Apart from how much I love this story on its own though, DC basically made all their storylines canon here by introducing the idea of parallel worlds and going between them. I think the 8th person cliffhanger ending for JUSTICE may even be an open door left for this idea. My story interpretation makes 9mynameis1 this 8th person but I also can’t stop noticing how much their outfit and hair looks like JiU’s “villain” scene in Déjà vu. Interestingly, that was a story about the corruption of a hero (Yoohyeon). In that one, the outside source of corruption had made her see enemies when there were none and her losing them one by one (probably by killing JiU, who she thought would “betray” her but the MV implies that this was all in her head and that the true betrayer was Yoohyeon all along). There are so many ways the fake-perception-villain-JiU can somehow be explained to exist. Maybe, yes, Yoohyeon was imagining it in Déjà vu but in a parallel universe she really was being betrayed by an actual villain JiU! Or something! I don’t know! Where is my Dreamcatcher Universe! ALSO DREAMCATCHER UPLOADED THE OT7 DANCE LITERALLY THE SECOND I TYPED THAT LAST SENTENCE WHATTTTTTTTTTT
