SDC3 EP 3

Mini

Derek isn't in this season as a contestant but I'm pretty sure he's helping choreograph in the background. He was a contestant in SDC2 iirc - it's been a while since I watched the early seasons so I could be mixing them up. I think I saw him in the practice room in later episodes a couple of times. I think surprisingly enough, Yibo might be the most familiar with waacking out of all the captains. I know it's not part of SM training cuz Ten had to learn it from scratch from Waackxxxy, and I really doubt that he had any sort of exposure to it during his time in EXO. Same with Jackson, and I think Wallace only saw it in previous seasons of SDC. Yibo, on the other hand, went and watched KOD 2018 (which is where he met AC), so I think he would've had the most (how do I even say this?) "developed" understanding of the style? And yeah, with vogue, I think none of them have any experience with vogue or ballroom culture, as you pointed out, since they didn't react to the dips at all. Speaking of Yibo, he definitely preferred (and still prefers) old-school freestyle dancers over choreographers. I think the biggest growth for me in S4 was when he was able to recognize that he desperately needed a choreographer and came to value Momo's role on his team so much, because that's something you won't see in this season. I don't think he's wrong, since choreographers have close to 0 chance of winning the show, but I think he realized that he needs solid choreography to push as many of his people to the final stage. Great reaction as always, and I'm so hyped for the next episode as well! They're gonna be tackling, in my opinion, the toughest challenge in SDC yet (and probably the toughest challenge in any dance show I've watched so far, really). It's gonna be great!

I am a little sad I don’t get the Derek performances but I think Chick is taking the cake with his vibes and I am HERE for it 😂😂 I can’t wait for the next episode and I’m really happy I was able to properly look at this and analyze all of the choreographies! It was a LONG 4 hours but I really enjoyed it!!!!

Just in case you wanna check out TaoTao & CiCi performance with proper music: https://youtu.be/9oa0Ba2I3bE?si=gtoiVImMIcJ2gNED This was one of my favorite performances so it was painful to see the music got muted lol. And yes, the bows that they were doing during performance are part of the wedding ritual: the first bow is directed to heaven and earth, the second to parents and the third to each other. Based on the audio from the song, they only did the last two bows: the second bow towards the captains and the last bow to each other.

That is absolutely incredible and I'm so happy to have been impacted even without the music! I'll take a look at it with music before we start the next episode! Thank you for the link!

So in reference to Chinoiserie, from what I understand this is just a term to denote the blending of Western and Eastern art forms. Huang Xiao and Derek blend western styles and Chinese classical and folk styles. Maybe your best bet is to look into Chinese classical dance? As far as folk dances go, there are 56 recognized ethnic groups in China and each one has a style unique to them. Miao, Dai, Mongolian are all very different. Fun fact: Han Geng was famous in China before his Super Junior time. He majored in dance going to University in Beijing at the age of 12. While there he mastered all 56 ethnic dance styles.

Thank you for this clarification! Much appreciated! I also didn’t know about hang gene and his extensive folk dance history! I just knew a bit about how he knows Mongolian and a few others!
