My second favourite (G)-IDLE track!! I am so mad I need to work right now but will watch asap. 😭(Top favourite is a Queendom one so 👀... soon.)

I watched and I don't want to overwhelm you with so much information about the group before you get to Queendom or decide to marathon them so I'll keep it brief! The one whose diction and delivery you were intrigued by is Soyeon, the leader and main rapper of the group but most importantly the chief composer and writer. Two other members, Yuqi and Minnie, also write, compose and produce both individually and for the group, but Soyeon has written the most and has even been confirmed as a full member of the Korea Music Copyright Association this year which is not easy. To compare, there are less than 30 idols total in that list - 3RACHA is three of them too by the way!- and Soyeon is now latest of the three female idols on it! She has been composing and writing most of IDLE's tracks since debut. (It's a whole can of worms: CUBE was financially collapsing at the time, Soyeon didn't want to use any of the debut track options they had and since the company kept delaying the debut as well for not having songs, she wrote one herself and convinced the company to do an unnamed listen of all the options including the one she wrote, and by vote won it with her song so CUBE gave them the go ahead. Honestly, wild. I think she had said before that it was PENTAGON's Hui who talked her into going for this since she had produced her own songs before as well and after seeing Hui work his ass off and creating beautiful things in Road to Kingdom, I can see why I was drawn to him so much too. 😭) At this point in time, she has been given creative and executive control by CUBE. (Actually, I think she was given the Executive Producer role for the group after Hwaa's album I Burn, but I may be wrong!) Apart from all of this though, she is hands-down one of my favourite performers ever. Her stage charisma is out of the charts and is very particular to her. You'll see it for yourself in Queendom, so I don't want to paint your expectations too much by talking about why I love it so much! The lyricism of Hwaa goes really deep and I can't do justice to it as I don't speak Korean myself. I wouldn't call it lore per se, but the song is *kind of* like the end of a trilogy of songs: Hann (IDLE's first comeback, 2018), Hann (Alone in Winter) (the first song on the I Burn album, 2021) and Hwaa (the second song on the I Burn album and the title track). As you learned from that fan analysis, it is about surviving and moving on from a toxic relationship. Hwaa basically goes through the feelings of being numb due to the aftermath of that relationship ("winter"), but slowly burning it all away ("fire") and being able to move and start feeling again ("bloom"). By the way, I don't know who was responsible for the translation but there is an English version of Hwaa as well and it does a pretty good job of painting the picture so if you're curious about the lyrics and want to interpret them yourself, I recommend it! As someone who is a sucker for fire/phoenix-esque symbolism, this song just came for ME. Also, the one whose hair you found fun is Minnie, and she actually did her hair like that after Park Bom on Queendom because she loved it so much iirc. 😂
