BE MBITIOUS EP 3

I have very strong opinions about this episode. I lost so much respect for Ohbody following this. I saw a lot of his stuff before and while I think he's a great dancer, there's absolutely no excuse for verbally abusing your students. And it's not like this was just a classroom incident (which isn't excusable to begin with), Trendy Rock joined his crew because he wanted to be a part of it, presumably because he held great deal of respect for Ohbody. The way they just brushed it off... man, I know that it's a different culture and all, but it still infuriates me so much. You are correct, they didn't air Koosung vs Austin, and they didn't air Kasper vs BM either (both of which were double eliminations). There's the unreleased footage floating around, and I do understand Kasper vs BM resulting the way they did, but I have no idea what happened to Koosung & Austin. I feel like maybe the drama from episode 2 was too much and they decided to just edit it out of ep 3. But that still doesn't answer why they were both eliminated? I didn't think neither of them did badly.

I have a lot to say about this show but I'll hold back *some* of my frustrations haha. It was really nice hearing your perspective on the whole thing with Trendy Rock and OhBody because of the whole toxic masculinity thing in Korea. I'm also glad you're seeing through a lot of mnet's bs editing since they can be extremely sneaky about it and they're good at crafting a certain narrative. Case in point, I don't have the source for this because it's been years since the show aired (which is when I watched it), but Jin said that he was actually the one who suggested that Taehyun mirror one of the moves during the choreography. Of course, this wasn't shown to the judges, which is why they were saying that they were impressed Taehyun thought of mirroring the move. Another instance of mnet being shady is with Baek Jin. I really dislike the guy because of things that happened during Produce X 101 but he didn't flash Harry June the middle finger. Mnet just blurred it and added reactionary footage that suggested he did. Aside from the editing, mnet just chose to screw certain people over during the show itself. Some dancers mentioned they chose the songs they wanted to freestyle to but some weren't able to choose. For example, Kasper got NCT 127's Tiger Inside as his song to freestyle to when… he choreographed it and that put him at an inherent disadvantage. You can find less edited versions of *some* of the battles on The Choom's Youtube channel if you search "가로춤캠" and also the unaired clips of Kasper vs. BM and Austin vs Koosung if you search "미공개".

ive been a fan of taehyun since he was kid monster, and i remember when he was on produce he got a LOT of hate for being too intense since that was an idol show. it was so refreshing to see his personality be praised since the people who watch this show were less involved in kpop stan culture and found him entertaining 😭 but editing aside, a lot of the dancers also purposely tried to say more controversial? things just to make the show more dramatic and to ensure more screentime LMAO. its part of why taehyun plays up his personality more, and why jin kept on bringing up idols when him and kino are literally longtime friends. its just an ongoing storyline mnet has, before this idol vs dancer plot they pushed the idol vs rapper fights since like 2013. anyway the self choreographed videos the finalists made can only be accessed through a korean vpn i believe if you want to see them for yourself!

I hate the format so much haha! 30 seconds to freestyle and not even using the same music? This is not a battle! The poor dudes were just throwing their most impressive power moves and going as fast as they could in the hope something sticks. And I hate what they did to Tutat: Even if they think having tutting only as a genre isn't suitable to an all styles crew (why even invite him then Mnet?), they know him! They know he's also a popping champion! The use of prior knowledge is very incosistent in the show. But I don't need to feel to bad for the street dancers, they're doing well. Speaking of Slim Boogie, Jin battled him in the popping final of Flava of the Year 2023 - great battle, Jin is making waves (no pun intended) internationally. And Lil'C, Brother Bin and Tutat will be in the Korean Redbull Finals a month from now - the lineup for that looks great!

I don't have much to say but I watched that show at the end and it was quite fun (and heartwarming towards the end) haha, and although there was a little bit of stuff with how they picked people, I think it'd be really cool to hear your perspective from a teacher POV!

That show looks so fun!!! May need to add it in if I have room in my schedule in between shows sometime!

JessReacts764

The format is definitely not the top 5 choice in terms of format.. but when does Mnet do it right 😂 I didn’t know about that fun fact with Slim and Jin! Good chance their battle came across my FYP back while it was happening! I’m also happy all the dancers are doing good now a days… I will definitely have to check out redbull finals because of the sheer amount of heavy hitters in it!!

JessReacts764

I completely can see how OhBody’s complete indifference and contentment in how he presents himself can be so disrespectful. Part of me feels Mnet didn’t need to edit that much for this portion of the drama and that’s truly unfortunate. I don’t understand how they eliminate both without telling us 😂 but that may be an Mnet thing that told them it was a potential option but kept us as an audience in the DARK…

haha your comment about choreographers making funny sounds thanks for that XD. I can't count and live on tatata pak bang batatata booms XD. except I just say it in my head so people don't think i'm nuts in class the boxiness of the choreos maybe is because they had to choreo within their little boxed spaces in the practice area? Remember how Xhin was hitting everyone when doing the choreo hahah Everyone else has said it but I agree with what you said about Ohbody and Trendy Rock. Being a veteran in your field and actually being in a leader position doesn't mean you're actually a good leader. Effective leadership requires to understand the individuals you're working with. It feels like Ohbody at least at that time, didn't recognise it and everything that happened after...they just couldn't be on the same page about the issue so they didn't make up. It's a totally real and normal situation in life though imo? They don't match as people and imo, that's actually fine. it feels like trendee actually wants to make up because he continues to be upset about it and Ohbody is less bothered. If I were Trendy and I was like "fine this guy's not the mentor and leader I thought he was", I'd just walk away and get on with life. He still cares and thats why he's still upset. And the end to that was so anti climatic for all the story mnet was pushing ^^"> Andybody can dance is fun to watch but ...well if you watch it I'll comment there. There's another show with a better format I think. Dance War...everyone stays masked and people vote plus professional dancers judge. I mean fans figured who was who before the finals but you can evaluate a bit more objectively that way

Thank you for your perspective on this and I find it funny the relational elements this episode had! Agreed that with everything, we all agree Mnet likes pushing their own narratives with people and I also know that with case between these two, it was not a great place to rehash this out you know? But that's how the industry plays things out sometimes... Regarding the show recommendation, it sounds so freaking fun! I'll add it to my spreadsheet for a rainy day haha!! I love shows like that and I can't wait to see what else comes down the pipeline with upcoming seasons of shows!

Dance war was online only (so no funny cuts and no emcee chatter) and went with the format group a vs group b covering dances from the same idol groups. People vote for each performer (I think it was up to three per match up?) and judges commented (commentary videos in Korean no subs tho). The team with the highest total votes wins -land the bottom two individuals from each losing team was limbo think? Something like that

JessReacts764

I appreciate you taking the time to express your feelings about this episode! Mnet needs to calm down and take a freaking chill pill on some of these edits... I swear it's worse than Jersey Shore cuts and those are BAD haha. Thank you for clarifying the situation between Harry June and Baek Jin. If Mnet is going to continue to be the worst, at least they should learn how not to get caught, you know what I mean? It takes the fun out of it all for everyone and makes people suffer across the shows! I may take time to watch some of the full cams that you referenced if time allows but bless it all haha

JessReacts764

Taehyun is such a character I swear haha! I wasn't a big fan of him during SMF, but knowing what I know now I laugh at how he exists on camera haha! I can definitely see that some of the guys here are pulling SWF energy on some of these issues for the sake of more screen time, but what I found funny is some people who tried to stir the pot still got cut out.. Bless it... Mnet is why we can't have nice things is the point of all their shows and we are here for the dumpster fires haha
