The Jnr Taco/Keven x Gogo brothers song is actually from a movie with main characters in the Hong Kong Triads and the brotherhood/friendship of the main characters. So Jnr Taco and Keven really were mimicing the clothing and vibe of the 90s/2000s HK triads or what popular culture assumed them to be. Haha what they were pulling out was meant to mimic the long knives that the gangsters (at least in the movies) would pull out and fight each other with. Taotao and Cici had such hard luck to go against xiao jie and xiao ji. Those 2 guys are always super super funny and creative, but they also danced well. They actually also even managed to mix in this contemporary feel to the whole thing (minus the slapstick portions lol) that felt quite legit. Re covering men with earrings yes they don't allow allow brightly colored hair, men with earrings etc. So even like Yibo and Lay who're younger and idols you basically seem them sporting very clean hair cuts and no earrings and no colored hair. Think it was something gradual and more rules were added over time but basically no "effiminate" men on tv. Wild color hair applies to women as well afaik. Had a friend who went to film something recently as a contestant and they sprayed her blue/purple hair black during the shoot. I love how popping C always just goes along with whatever MT cooks up and gives it a go and it always looks so good since they both dance with such quality. I'm not a fan of Mr Three on his own, but he's really good as a team with Rochka. They really match well. Bouboo is surprisingly funny and game to ham it up even though he normally looks kinda cool and expressionless. haha that's kinda fun I think for Huang Xiao it worked especially because he was partnered with George because the choreography called for grace. I don't think any of the other of the bboys on the show would have looked as nice. George is tall and long limbs make those kinds of moves look nicer imo. My ranking is the same as yours! Tbh I find that Huang Xiao x George's one was really was the best representation of the Chinese concept because the music and theme were all truly Chinese. fusion. They were incorporating western/street style moves into a Chinese theme and traditional Chinese music without it being incongurous. Ma Xiao Long's came close but their piece was about embriodery which China has a rich culture in, but Huang Xiao's just had an aditional layer to it. The whole sagely character sitting and slowly fishing has a very strong cultural and philosophical imagery. The captains talked about it a bit and the intro mentioned it a bit but they don't explain it so it's a bit of an if-you-know-you-know situation (but most people in the audience would know). The saying "There are always fish willing to be caught by angler Jiang Taigong" is about historical military staregist Jiang Ziya (aka Jiang Taigong), who would fish without a hook (or a straight one). The philosophy being that the fish will come when they're ready. The title of their piece was a play on this saying, "There are always fish willing to be caught by angler George". :D

I agree with you on ALL of your points!! I agree especially to your perspective with George/Huang Xiao choreography match and Cici TaoTao pairing against the humorous duo haha I feel with this show I get to learn SO MUCH outside of my own culture and what is deemed "lived and known experience" which makes my heart so happy to learn! PLUS all that information you give me makes me feel super in the know so I thank you so so much!!!
