Boubou was so cute in his performance and he was properly committed to the acting portions which really surprised me haha. Their chemistry was great tho and very much needed for a choreo like that. I think it was sad they didn't translate the narration in the music for Ma Xiaolong an Acky's performance but my interpretation of it is Ma was a poet writing up in a mountain temple where a monk who is just doing his chores (sweeping) hears and joins in the poem making. The thing is with Chinese poems it's a thing for one person to come up with one line, and another to "reply" with the next line. Ma is excited by the exchange it seems. So that was the kind of exchange they were having. In the end they enjoyed the interaction and meeting someone likeminded, but the monk goes back to his chores and the poet goes back to his writing. So the monk is a skilled person, his poetry skills hidden as he's just there doing his chores. Kinda guru-like? Is how I took it XD The david, HB team. The skateboard is something the main character uses, and the final ending of David pressing on his watch and Yibo then slumping over after being hit by a projectile from the watch is also a reference to the anime. In the anime, the main character always does that to knock out the adult detective, and then uses a voice changer to explain and solve crime cases in the adult detective's voice, hiding his own identity that way. Lol. It was very much an if you know you know kinda thing, but given the audience and the relative fame of the anime/manga in China, most of the audience should know it. People got that excited about it because they knew. Personally I don't know Lupin so much but both series had this 70s music vibe. And yes the screen was showing the names of the people who voted for each team. Haha and everyone saying the disco team was doing 80s. but actually the 2 songs they used were actually from the early 90s :P. Super famous songs though. If only Jnr Taco was in that team that if would have been a pure gathering of the SDC4 comedians. It's amazing that the audience who looked too young to have experienced that era tho, to have enjoyed it so much so that's really props to the 4 dancers.

Ah, I'm finally caught up. My favorite performances of this episode were definitely Crazy Pianist and Disco teams. As you mentioned, if we're just looking at pure technique and skills, Disco team would've lost, but it's a performance where the only opinion that matters is the audience - and it's not a choose between the two. As long as they entertain the audience, they can get the votes, and it really showed here. That was brilliantly played by Xiao Ji. It's also refreshing to see Fanfan dancing to Disco in this way - I'm mostly familiar with her through her battles, and her waacking style is always graceful, so it's so nice to see her doing something different. The Huang Xiao curse strikes again. I absolutely loved this performance, but when Conan team showed up, I knew they'd win. I thought it would be closer, though, like maybe a 10-vote difference, but not this big of a gap. Again, audience entertainment is so important in these rounds, and pretty much everybody in East Asia knows Conan and the theme song. It's impossible to not relate to it. I'm sure you'll watch SDC3 eventually, but as it was mentioned here, Huang Xiao really made a name for himself through his Chinese-style performances on that season, so the audience really wanted to see more of it, and they were disappointed when he didn't do it. Is it fair? I don't think so, but it's understandable. Personally, I think it's a shame, because while I did become a big fan of his due to his Chinese-style performances, if I had to name my top 10 choreographies by him, 9 of them are non-Chinese style. Looking forward to next week's episode! Some of my favorite moments of the whole season are there, so I hope you'll also enjoy them!
