Hey all you lovely people!

I wrote a small and hilarious RPG last weekend which I've since played twice and greatly enjoyed. It's called SKULL WIZARDS OF THE CHAOS CAVERNS, and I've attached it here for your enjoyment, please pass it around and play the hell out of it.

Cheers,

Abbadon

Hilarious! Thanks for sharing!

Awesome! In all honesty, the artform I most respect is the short-form RPG...

Okay silly question: should we take turns for challenges/monsters, or should everyone make checks in real time with their own set of dice a la "escape: the curse of the temple"?

Great question - nobody takes turns or does any rolling except the players in this case, should probably have specified

I played this last night! It was a lot of fun. I made a small tweak in that I had the players give me a few extra words beforehand, to use as seeds for the names of dungeon levels, challenges, and magic items. Each of those ended up using one predefined word and one word given as a detail during play. The PCs were a SLEEPY GNOLL SPACESHIP BARD, an OPAL-SLIME MAYOR wielding a DRAGON, and a BOBCATFOLK HANDYMAN with a GUITAR OF RUNNING. (I'm omitting the features that didn't come up much.) They were sent into the CHAOS CAVERNS OF THE SKULL WIZARDS to seek out the peasant's lost THE GOO. (One of the players supplied "The" when asked for "any word.") The first level was THE HALLS OF MUSIC AND BLANKETS, where they overcame a DANGEROUSLY RUMPLED BLANKET and fought a VIVACIOUS JIANGSHI with the power of FLYING until it got bored of their constant failures and left. Level two was THE CAVE OF CAN QUARANTINE. They solved the riddle of the DOOR OF THEY ARE RUN and used sleepwalking to defeat a PUCE MEDUSA with the power of HANGING. The dragon ate some cans and may have contracted botulism. Finally, level three was the MAZE OF SECRET HEROES. They overcame a FORK IN THE PATH with a SECRET ALARM on the left and FRIES on the right. (I let them bypass this one without any rolls because I thought it was funnier that way.) Finally they found The Goo, guarded by a BLUE DIGIMON with the power of DIGIVOLVING. They grabbed The Goo and ran away; the digimon charged its laser too much and exploded. In the end, everybody had fun, though there were definitely some shaky moments. I never managed to give them any magic items, which was just as well because I wasn't entirely sure how they're supposed to work. (Are they more like weapons, or skills? Or both?) Skills didn't get used very much, nor did several of the features. (The bard's weapon was a NIGHT OF JOUSTING, which sounded interesting but proved difficult to use.) All in all, though, it made for a great silly one-shot. I have some fairly complete text logs if anybody is interested in seeing how the session went in more detail, but they're still being processed so it'll be a little while.

So what does the Bard have to establish to get double xp?

Something like establishing a fact, where in the GM says where would a good place be for a demon lord to hide? Bard player says "the fortress of Gilould in the eye socket of the Titan on the plains of Dust!"?
