Because of Doctor Strange's unsuccessful spell, Eddie and V ended up in a whole new dimension. Since they're in a new universe they're are not in the run anymore, and so they decided to go back to their old San Francisco. V, to rejoice the situation a little, decides to celebrate a Christmas that will help to increase their bond and compatibility.

(Yeah, the comic was in work in progress before the last Spiderman movie was released on theaters. If you'll see the end credit scene, probably you'll find this plot not coherent to movies line. Take this story as an alternative universe, guys. )
