This is a simple guide and repository for fans who have never used the Virt-A-Mate software before or would like to learn more about it's inner working.

WHAT IS VIRT-A-MATE / VIRTAMATE / VAM?

Virt-A-Mate is a 3D simulation software, for Windows PC, that can be used from the Desktop or in a VR environment. Users are able to download girls, full interactive scenes, outfits, and various other things directly from within the software or third-party sources such as this fanbox. You can enjoy others animated or stationary works or even create your own. I strongly urge anyone who hasn't tried VAM to give it a try.

WHERE CAN I DOWNLOAD IT AND HOW DO I INSTALL?

VAM uses an installer called VaM_Updater.exe which can be downloaded here. This exe does not contain all the files necessary for the install, it is only used to pull the actual files from the webserver they are hosted on. It is also used whenever you need to update VAM to the latest version.

For the key, you can ask about it in the chat, find a spare one in the VAM thread of F95zone, or make a 1-time purchase of your own at the official Patreon. Please note that 1.21 keys work for the latest 1.22 version.

Once you get the installer downloaded, you need to create a folder to install it into. I recommend creating a folder named VAM or Virtamate in any location of your choice and then drop the VaM_Updater.exe into this folder, open it up, then click the install button. Be sure to keep the installer once finished as it can be used in the future to repair your install or update it if needed.

Alternatively, if you would like to download all the files at once or in separate parts, instead of using the installer to pull the files from the webserver, you can do so from this thread on the F95zone forums. Registration will be required.

Now that you have Virt-A-Mate installed, I suggest running it in desktop mode first to enter your key and to set up and preferences to your liking. To do this, you can run the file named 'VaM (Desktop Mode).bat' instead of the normal VaM.exe file, which would open the software directly in VR mode.

WILERATF STARTER PACK

Though there are many great looks, environments, and scenes out there, sometimes it can be hard to find them all since they are scattered about. If you would like a starter pack to get you going while you accumulate your collection, I suggest you give the WilerATF pack a look.

Though old, this pack includes a good amount of various things for beginners. For instructions on how to install this pack go HERE. Though that post links to the downloads that are required, they no longer work. You can find all downloads required HERE (Requires registration).

SAVING AN APPEARANCE PRESET

1. Create a character or load an existing one up from a scene.

2. Make sure you are in "Edit" mode.

3. Ensure you have the correct person selected in VAM.

4. Switch to the "Appearance Presets" tab.

5. Type the name of your new preset.

6. Hit the "Create New Preset". (note: If the preset already exists you will have a 2. "Overwrite Preset" button)

7. Take a screenshot for your preset.

8. All saved "Appearance Presets" can be found in "%VAMFolder%/Custom/Atom/Person/Appearances".

LOADING AN APPEARANCE PRESET

1. Open any scene and make sure there is already a person loaded into it.

2. Make sure you are in "Edit" mode.

3. Select the person you wish to replace.

4. Switch to the "Appearance Presets" tab.

5. Click the "Select Existing..." button.

6. In the file browser select the look that you saved that you wish to load or navigate to the .var file on the left panel that contains to look that you have downloaded.

7. Once you click on the look they will be loaded and replace to person in the scene.

GOOD TO KNOW INFORMATION

1. VAR files should be placed in the AddonPackages folder.

2. VAC files, though ever rarely used anymore, go in the Saves/scene/ folder

3. Girls usually show up in the scene browser. When you open the scene, you can save their look in the 'Appearance Presets' menu so that you can replace girls in other scenes with your saved girls.

4. Girls that do not show up in the scene browser can usually be found when clicking the 'Load Appearance' option inside the Apperance Presets menu. After clicking load, you should navigate on the left side of the browser to the VAR file containing the girl and click on it. She should then show up in the main window to select.

5. For live support you can join the Chat Room and i'll help you out in real time.

VIDEO PLAYLISTS & TUTORIALS

Even though some of the tutorials below use older versions of the software. You should 100% watch through them to get a general grasp of what is possible, even if you don't fully understand it. You will learn things over time and begin to enjoy VAM more the more you learn about it.

Yeah hah. Make sure you put all the .var files into the AddonPackages folder for them to show up. Then you can open any of them from the Scene Browser menu.
