Although most of you are here to look at cute and funny pictures, I want to take the time to lay out some of my alternate plans for my fanbox so that you all know what to expect from here on out. This post is aimed more towards other VR creators.

I take most of my pictures myself and I go out of my way to make sure that I look right in most them - that means adjusting color, brightness etc, before taking the picture, not after!

I'd like to share with you how I do that so that you can look great too! I'll discuss be bring up issue after issue in blog posts and how to fix them. Here's the first one!

Post Processing

Post Processing can be a great tool, but it can often leave some colors that we want to preserve as woefully washed out. Many VRC worlds use ACES, especially worlds with bright emissions or dark environments, such as clubs, both to reel in the colors and make it appear more vibrant. ACES is one of the default Post Processing presets in prefabs, and is also the default picture style on VRCLens, so this is something you'll often see in VRC. As you can see in the screenshot above, it doesn't always do great with all skin tones, producing a much less appealing image. That doesn't mean ACES, or all Post Processing is bad - it just may not give you the image you're looking for. Personally, I prefer keeping Post Processing off unless it just adds a bit of Bloom or contrast, but otherwise I leave it disabled.

Thankfully there is an easy fix. Many worlds allow for Post Processing to be disabled without issue. When that isn't possible, you can use third party tools to do so. For VRCLens users, you can adjust the default picture style when setting up VRCLens, or even after the fact ingame under "VRCLens-> Settings -> Picture Style".

Tip #1: Disable Post Processing before taking pictures. Under certain circumstances you'll want to leave it on, so definitely compare before and after!

I do not recommend adjusting your avatar's colors or shader settings to fix this issue, as it may make you look strange when not being affected by that same Post Processing preset.

A lot goes into looking right, and many worlds seem to work against you. But, the reality is, we can control most of the variables, regardless of the world, in real time! I'll be going into detail on how to get as many of those variables right for every picture you take, in approximately easiest to most difficult order. Each blog post will be posted for everyone to view, and will detail how I prefer to do it. That means I'll be going over shader settings, Avatar 3.0 setup stuff, toggles, and even mods!
