Interesting lines of text on her suit :P

不知道发生了什么,但是请无视那些恶语中伤的评论

I see you removed the comments on her outfit. Just wanted to say that while I personally found the memes funny, they were very controversial and offensive in other languages. Memes don't tend to translate well, which explains why you got such backlash from your Chinese followers. You should feel free to express whatever you want in your art! However, I follow a lot of controversial artists who post offensive jokes so I can tell you from experience that if you plan on posting more of those, expect to get a lot of pushback from people. That shouldn't stop you from making what you want to make, but just be aware that people will get hurt and will lash out. Anyways I still love your art and will continue supporting you ❤️

I understand and it is unfortunate, but I would like to mention that people should be aware of cultural differences as well. Those are jokes from EN community, recommended to me when I asked for the jokes. I've received no jokes in Chinese, nor nobody corrected the people who recommended the text/images. I believe no matter the situation, if there is a clear misunderstanding, you should calmly converse with both the sides, learn the context and not jump to conclusions. As a non-chinese, I can't possibly know of offensive words in that community, but I am saddened people misunderstood them.

It seems people took offense at "KYS" and mostly "Gay Shit Impact". This is frankly absurd and shows a lack of ability to interpret different meanings in lines and most importantly, being able to apply nuance and context to words. Zero purpose KYS: is perfectly acceptable given Silver Wolf's character, she's edgy, rebellious. Her wearing something that jokes about suicide is entirely understandable and makes sense within the context. It's dark humor at worst, not offensive at all. Gay Shit Impact: Many of the characters in Genshin are implied or confirmed through implication to be gay. What then is the problem with "gay shit"? The term shit does not necessarily imply negative, and it;s a choice to strictly it as negative. Another reading of GSI would simply be it's a dig that Genshin is very gay - and this is fine. There's nothing offensive about this either.

It seems that you were attacked by people who's command of English was certainly lacking and thus took offense at things that weren't offensive to begin with. Jokes and digs are not offensive, they are humor. As you were largely attacked by your Chinese followers, this is likely what happened. People ran words through google translate, didn't comprehend the nuance and jumped to conclusions. In Cantonese there's a saying (you saw this on X if you read our comment there) 叻唔切, in plain English this means "too clever for your own good, jumping to conclusions and being an idiot in general". Quite a few meanings for 3 words. Nuance matters. Please continue to draw what you like, personally we find your art to be spectacular and something to look forward to seeing when you update.

I believe you have no offense, but both GI extreme players and non-GI extreme players have always been active anonymously. Some even resort to using bot accounts to stir up trouble by pretending to be GI players and then expressing extreme views. Such behavior isn't hard to come by online. As ordinary people, what we can do is to ignore these extremists. Your work is fantastic, keep it up.

Nishida

Quite. Those fanatics (I've no offense, but this word is suitable for their extremist behavior) are enjoy to "prove something is insulting". Some tieba like 原神内鬼吧,反原吧,mihoyo吧 are disaster area, full of these disgusting fanatics.

Agreed! The internet tends to jump to conclusions and is quick to anger. They see something offensive and immediately start attacking without trying to understand the other person. I just hope you don't take the criticisms to heart as there some nasty things being said, especially here on Pixiv. Your supporters understood that you were just using memes and meant no harm.

I don't know if you guys can read Chinese or not, but what I see the most are CN people attacking the illustrator by the reason of drawing Taiwan's national flag, but not for the dark humor. I agree this is totaly incorrect, people should not be attack just becuase they just draw a flag. But for the used words in old versions, as a Taiwanese and native Chinese speaker, I think I nees to say something. For the KYS, we also say 7414, which sounds like "go die" in Chinese, this can be say as just a dark humor. But for Zero purpose, zero can be written to "0"(number, which looks like capital O), and purpose can be abbreviate to "P". And "OP" is a contemptous word in Chinese game community, which originally meant "fanatic Genshin players", but thanks to the Genshin haters, it tends to meant "All Genshin players" nowadays. Althought I don't know which meaning does the illustrator means, but you need to be absolutely when using this word to people in the Chinese community.

Millie

Lastly for "Gay shit impact", I know that "shit" can just also means "stuff" in English (in a rude way). But for those who doesn't know English that well, shit only means shit. So for me, I can unserstand why some Chinese using fans took offense by these words. If the illustrator is going to write something controversial next time, hope he/she can be more careful (maybe write some annotation below the topic), especially when there's lot of Chinese sperkers. But for those who attack because of the flag, yeah just let them KTS.

Millie

I' not sure whether you know Chinese or not since you have Chinese word in your name and twitter posts long time ago, but yeah everyone can use google translate and Chat-GPT to copy paste words in languages they don't understand, so I'll believe you for now since you've said. But if what you've said is ture, then I think you should check the person who recommand you to write "Zero purpose", cause this can be mislead to a really rude word Chinese community, the person who recommand this has a high possibility to be on purpose.

Native fluency in Cantonese ourselves here. Some of our written Chinese might be off as the structure of spoken Cantonese doesn't translate into written 1:1 and we self taught based off spoken -> written. Have only a basic grasp of Mandarin so don't really understand much of that side. Having lived in HK for a decade though, fully get the fanatic PRC nationalist gripes and them being triggered by anything that even remotely references Taiwan.. or HK for that matter. Although it's be frank, after the first few insults in that thread, one just tunes them out as they're simply vile. Fanatics is the correct word, if you dislike something then move on and don't comment. Threatening the artist and similarly abhorrent behaviour is uncalled for under any circumstance. Ignorance is often the culprit for people taking offense at things that aren't actually offensive, instead of learn, they lash out. It's asinine.

Millie

At the first second I saw "Zero purpose", I also been mislead to the meaning of OP and be upset. But after the the artist said that she doesn't understand Chinese... I think it's not that big deal since she's innocent. And she've also edited the picture, thing can just end here. But those fanatic nationlists (we called them 小粉紅) just keep blaming her, they curse her and her family members in comments below, it's so crazy... Can't they just learn to forgive someone?
