Hey there, I've been working on the skin again... But this time I changed a whole lot of stuff!

I reduced the SSS, making everything less transparent/white on the thin parts, that's a big change, and even though I liked how it looked before, it's more realistic now.
Then I added very fine details, irregularities in the skin, the kind that you don't really see unless you're looking super close, but it's visible as a whole.
And then the biggest change ever, I went the weird route of ditching the roughness input for the skin and instead making the roughness with micro bumps.
Just in case you're interested in how it works, it's just how real skin behaves, and pretty much any material. Nothing is "rough" really, but instead the surface is composed of microfacets, they're usually so little that you can't see them to the naked eye, and you don't bother computing them for real, and just ask the shader to make it look rough, and stop caring about it. If you look up macro pictures of skin, you'll see that it's very bumpy, but it also looks very smooth, sometimes almost wet or oily. For a photoreal look from ultra close, just turning up the roughness will look weird, close up skin will look like an infinitely fine grain that has no detail. So you have to make microfacets yourself for a good look from this close, of course a noise texture can do it, a very fine grainy noise. Then to increase or decrease that kind of roughness, all you have to do it to increase or decrease the intensity of the microfacets on the normals. Since I used to work with roughness maps and masks, all I had to do was to plug that into the intensity input for the microfacets. That's why the wet parts still look wet, even though now the roughness is the same for the wet and dry parts, while it used to not be.
The result is that, very hard to differentiate from before, but it should be way more realistic. Especially from super close 🥰
