► How to get into the mode to draw... ✍😓 All artists, at any level of the profession, sometimes we need a little push to start moving the pencil. It happens even to the best... This is different from "not feeling inspired", not being inspired means not knowing what to do and "not feeling motivated to draw" is knowing what you want to draw but not feeling like doing it. I personally see my work with anime art as a hobby so I don't need too much motivation to do something I'm already having so much fun with, but for those who see drawing as just another job or a chore this can get tiring some times. Especially people who are studying art, in this case you can even see drawing as homework. These are some tips that have worked for me when I don't feel motivated to draw. 1.- Do some light warm-up, scribbles, doodles, scratches. Anything to get your hand moving, even if it's some aimless sketch. Sometimes you just need to touch the paper without much intention in mind to put yourself in the frame of mind to start drawing. 2.- Sitting in front of the canvas knowing that a long session of work awaits you can be overwhelming, so approaching the project without too much commitment can trick your brain into thinking that you are in for a much shorter session. Aim for a comfortable working time and try to build it into a much longer session. Any progress would be better than doing nothing all day. 3.- Watching videos of speed paintings on YouTube is a great way to get the engine running. In these times when we have easy access to videos of great teachers and experts putting their skill on display, gathering some inspiration and motivation to start drawing is easier than ever. However, try to avoid art tutorials as these will put you in a study-like mode, you might even get tired after just one tutorial. All you need is some nice music and a cool speed paint, try to follow the movement in your mind and eventually your hand will want to join the action. 4.- Start drawing in your mind, by this I don't mean to visualize the image you want to have at the end. I mean directly rehearsing the steps and processes necessary to create your drawing in your mind. Once again it's all about tricking the brain with low commitment tasks. Pulling out your tablet, plugging everything in and launching the drawing app is a hassle, so starting the drawing process right from your head is a prime to get you into drawing mode. 5.- Bore yourself to death. Let's admit it, playing a video game, watching a video or surfing the internet looking for interesting stuff, everything is more entertaining than sitting down to draw. (Not for me though) So shut out all possible distractions, clear your mind, relax for a couple of minutes in silence and get bored until drawing starts to sound like a good idea. 6.- Just leave it for later...¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Drawing is one of the most fun and rewarding activities that exist, if you can't sit down to draw and have a good time, this means that maybe your heart is somewhere else at the moment. Drawing has to be a fun activity so if you're not feeling the fun it means it's not the right time to draw. So it is better to wait for the canvas to call you to jump into action...! But this is a luxury that only early beginners and casual hobbyists can afford. If you are at all serious about your art you better lace up your boots and get ready to draw even in hail, snow or a day of low motivation... _:(´ཀ`」 ∠):_
