I've been wondering for a while if pupils reacting to light is something 1) possible in SFM, and 2) interesting to look at in an animation. Turns out, it is!

Looking at some videos for research, it seems like pupils in real life dilate a bit faster than I thought. Not very cinematic. To make the effect look great, I found all it needs is a small "rebound" period after it shrinks, like a camera lens over-adjusting and correcting itself.

It didn't take too long to actually implement the effect on a technical level. Unless we're looking at a mind-break situation… *scribbles notes*... there are a lot of other reactions that happen simultaneously with exposure to bright light: squinting, cheeks raising, brow furling, etc. I took a minute to mock some of that up and I think ended things with a positive result.

Check it out on Gfycat! Slow the animation down to 0.25x if you want to see the details clearly: https://gfycat.com/acrobaticflashybuck
