Change of tiers pricing incoming (Pixiv Fanbox)

This post is aimed at Fanbox users only. During February, I'm going to change the tiers value. You read it on most of my income post through the last years but the value of the yen makes it that my income on Fanbox is low. It's gotten even worse now that I'm almost at half the value I was 1 year and a half ago.

Here's my Fanbox chart since I opened it. You can clearly spot the surge of income in January/February/March 2021 following the Patreon ban. And you can also see the peak I'm talking about in September 1st of 2022. And the global decrease since then. In case you're wondering that it doesn't look like it's half the value, for some reason, my pledge recap says that I earned 192 000 Yens during August, and on this graph it says 170 000. I have no idea where those 22 000 went (and no, it's not the Fanbox fee cause it's not removed for the current month.) Anyway, I've already said so, 192k to roughly 105k (110k now.) It's not exactly half but you get the idea.

Since I always keep rambling about fairness and stuff, you have to understand that this is very unfair towards Subscribestar users who pay their tiers in dollar. I opened this fanbox almost 5 years ago (yes, before I got kicked from Patreon.) Back then, things were not the same at all. All my patrons were on Patreon and I opened this Fanbox because a couple of people who didn't want to use Patreon asked me to open a Fanbox (which I did.)

While I added new tiers in the mean time (when I got kicked from Patreon), I never changed the tiers value. And now it's becoming a real problem.

Let me give you an example. Right now the equivalent of the $10 tier is 1000 Yens.

Except that 1000 Yens are currently worth $6,76. Which means a Fanbox user only pays 2/3 of what a SS user needs to pay. That's not fair at all. And let's be honest, that's not fair for me either. Let me give you comparison of all tiers so you can have a better idea:

100 Yens --> $0,67 ($1 Tier)

300 Yens --> $2,02 ($3 Tier)

600 Yens --> $4,05 ($5 Tier)

1000 Yens --> $6,76 ($10 Tier)

1700 Yens --> $11,50 ($15 Tier)

2200 Yens --> $14,88 ($20 Tier)

2700 Yens --> $18,26 ($25 Tier)

3200 Yens --> $21,64 ($30 Tier)

5000 Yens --> $33,81 ($50 Tier)

7500 Yens --> $50,72 ($75 Tier)

10000 Yens --> $67,63 ($100 Tier)

As you can see this difference of 1/3 between amounts is more or less the same everywhere. Except that for a 100 Yens pledge, it's a difference of less than 40 cents. For a 10000 Yen pledge, it's a difference of more than $30.

So I'm perfectly aware that many people are going to dislike it but I have to equalize things a bit. Especially considering SoVR is coming and I'm going to need much more money than in 2023 since I'm back at paying a full team (Peak/Colorist/Background Designer/Nito) instead of just Nito.

So here are the changes I'll make (don't worry they will be made during February, they won't be effective for the end of this month, you'll have roughly 2-3 weeks to change you pledge if you wish to. Not trying to take people by surprise.)

100 Yens --> Doesn't change

300 Yens --> 400 Yens ($2,70)

600 Yens --> 700 Yens ($4,73)

1000 Yens --> 1400 Yens ($9,47)

1700 Yens --> 2100 Yens ($14,21)

2200 Yens --> 2800 Yens ($18,94)

2700 Yens --> 3500 Yens ($23,68)

3200 Yens --> 4200 Yens ($28,42)

5000 Yens --> 7500 Yens ($50,75)

7500 Yens --> 11000 Yens ($74,43)

10000 Yens --> 15000 Yens ($101,49)

As you can see, except for the $50 and $100 tiers, the value remain under their SubscribeStar equivalent, but at least, now things should be more balanced between the two sites. I have to admit that in the case of $50/$100 tiers, I just wanted round values. People wishing to support me with such big numbers probably won't care about the extra $0,75/$1,50 :x

Of course, considering the situation of the world right now, things can change a lot (like the $ can crash or the Yen can get strong again.) Unlike people making rises and never going back if needed, I'll try to adapt if the gap gets too big in the future (by lowering the tier amounts). But for now, it's really needed.
