Glinda the Good Witch of the South and General Jinjur from the 1986 anime adaptation of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz". Man, I should work with Shuichi Seki's designs more often. His character designs are all so varied and lively. Thank you for your contined support!

Well, this was a pleasant surprise. Yeah, I know you've done Dorothy commissions for me before, but I think it's the first time you've done one yourself right off the bat. Plenty of material for further images anyway, especially when you take into account Tip/Ozma. Heh, and too much information perhaps, but Dorothy is the sole reason I became so enamoured with bloomers, don't you know. (^_~) Incidentally, I fairly recently received the Blu-ray of this series from Japan, and it is subtitled in English as well (snapped it up the instant I saw it on Yahoo Auction). I've been wanting to see it for quite a while after I watched a fansub of the first episode, which had quite a few differences from the Canadian version shown on TV in the late 80s/early 90s, as you can well imagine. (^w^)

Thanks! Yeah, I started rewatching the series only a month ago for the first time in an eternity, and was really struck by the quality of both the animation and the designs. I looked up the character designer's credits and he has a really impressive resumé, with titles such as Swiss Family Robinson, Tom sawyer, the 1970s Sinbad series, Vicky The Viking and many others. I'm immediately drawn to visually interesting characters such as Jinjur as opposed to random teenage anime waifu nr 1001. I only know the English dub from a couple of Youtube clips, but the quality seemed fairly good, with many voices I recognised from the English dubs of Ulysses 31 and The MCOG. Plus it has Margot Kidder as the narrator, which is a definite plus.

perfect for me

Adrian Knight (Tao) did kind of stand out as Jack Pumpkinhead, didn't he? I do agree though, that it was a pretty good dub in and of itself. For sure, I've watched it on several occasions all the way through (it is fairly accurate to the books, better than the film ever was); the last time over a 4-day period as I recall. Dorothy & Tip both had personable voices too... even the CGI intro was catchy. Yeah, it does make you wonder what the hell went wrong with Nelvana many years later with Cardcraptors. (>_<) I didn't actually realise it was the same Margot Kidder until later on, you know (this was way before she went loopy). Ah, and it's funny you mentioning Vicky the Viking as well, because I have seen quite a lot of that one. I did prefer the earlier episodes of it myself, before they went and changed the theme tune, which wasn't a problem, just the lack of direction. Anyhow, I'll let you know how I feel about the Japanese version once I've watched it. (#^_^#)

Knight just has a very recognizable and natural sounding voice, so yeah, he stands out. Talking about CGI: I wonder if they used some early form of wireframe animation to assist in animating the scene where the house spins in the tornado, because that really looks very convincing. Or perhaps they filmed a physical model tu use as a reference, like Disney did with Cruella's car in 101 Dalmatians.
