非常事態が続きますが、ミリタリー・クラシックス69号は4月21日に発売されます！

Despite the state of emergency these days, Military Classics #69 will be out on April 21!

今回のすずきあきら先生のWW１兵器名鑑で取り上げるのはドイツ海軍のSMSエムデン軽巡洋艦です。

The theme for this issue of "WW1 Weapons Directory" by Akira Suzuki is the German Navy's SMS Emden light cruiser.

日本ではあまり馴染みが無いかもしれませんが、ドイツ海軍ではこの初代エムデンに続きエムデンの名を冠した軍艦が、WW2後のフリゲート艦も含め、4隻も作られました。

(5代目のフリゲート艦エムデンはすでに退役済みです)

It may not be very familiar in Japan, but in the German Navy, following this first Emden, four warships bearing the Emden name were made, including frigates after WW2.

(The 5th generation frigate Emden has already been decommissioned.)

WW1開戦当時、エムデンは東洋艦隊に所属し祖国から遠い中国の青島を拠点に任務についていました。ドイツから遠く離れた海で彼らがどのような活躍をしたのか？それは本誌で是非(´∀｀)ノ

At the outbreak of WW1, Emden was a member of the Eastern Fleet and was based in Qingdao, China, far from his homeland. How did they fare in the seas so far from Germany?It is in the magazine!:D

いろいろ苦しいことも多い昨今ですが、苦境にめげずに最後まで諦めないエムデンは良いテーマだなと思います。

There are many hardships these days, but I think Emden's story of not giving up on his predicament until the end is a good theme.
