今回のすずきあきら先生のWW1兵器名鑑のテーマは機関銃です。

Military Classics #72 was released on January 21st!

The theme of this issue of Akira Suzuki's WW1 Weapons Directory is machine guns.

図解はオチキス機関銃とマキシム機関銃(ヴィッカース機関銃)です。

マキシム機関銃は日露戦争時(1904~1905)にロシア軍が使用し、オチキス機関銃は日本軍も使用しました。漫画『ゴールデンカムイ』でも登場する機関銃なのでご存じの方も多いと思います。

Illustrations are the Ochkis machine gun and the Maxim machine gun (Vickers machine gun).The Maxim machine gun was used by the Russians during the Russo-Japanese War (1904~1905), and the Hotchkiss machine gun was used by the Japanese.

火薬の発明から始まり、銃は16世紀から17世紀にかけてヨーロッパで発展し、従来の戦いを変化させていきます。その一部は日本にも上陸し戦い方や城のデザインに影響を与えていきました。

Starting with the invention of gunpowder, guns developed in Europe during the 16th and 17th centuries, changing the traditional way of fighting.Some of them landed in Japan and influenced the way of fighting and the design of castles.

当初は一発一発を手間のかかる弾込めを行う必要がありましたが、発射サイクルを高める工夫が続けられます。

In the beginning, each shot had to be loaded laboriously, but innovations to increase the firing cycle continue.

産業革命を経た19世紀になると、連続した射撃が行える構造の銃が次々に発明されていきます。機関銃の誕生です。

In the 19th century, after the Industrial Revolution, guns with a structure that allows for continuous firing were invented one after another. This was the birth of the machine gun.
