MC☆あくしず57号が6月19日に発売されました！
今回は「世界の第二世代主力戦車」特集です。
ということで74式戦車の解説を担当しました。

74式戦車は様々な映像作品や漫画などでもよく見かける戦車なので馴染み深いかもしれません。名の通り1974年に正式化され、以後現在に至るまで陸上自衛隊に配備されている戦車です。三菱重工が開発・製造を行いました。総生産数は873両と言われています。
同時期の戦車としては西側陣営ではM60パットン(米)、レオパルド１(西独)、チーフテン(英)。そして東側陣営ではT-62(ソ連)などがあります。
You may be familiar with the Type 74 tank as it is a tank that is often seen in various video works and cartoons.As its name suggests, it was formalized in 1974 and has been deployed by JAPAN Ground Self-Defense Force until now.It was developed and manufactured by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. It is said that the total number of tanks produced is 873.
As for the tanks of the same period, in the Western bloc, the M60 Patton (U.S.), Leopard 1 (West Germany), Chieftain (UK). And in the eastern bloc, there is the T-62 (USSR) and others.


各国とも戦車の主砲は口径が100mmを超えるものとなり、火力・防御力・照準システムなどが進歩していきます。
時代は冷戦の最中。ソ連軍の大量の戦車が鉄のカーテンを超え、怒涛の勢いでやってくるのでは？と考えられていた時代です。

コナミ時代に74式戦車を取材したときの思い出です。
Here's an episode from when I covered the Type 74 tank when I was at Konami.


The armor around the tank's machine guns had turned yellow. (The interior of the tank is painted white.)
The reason for this is because of the machine gun smoke.
Ammunition manufacturers say that the smoke was very unhealthy. (Military joke.)


The story goes that it's hard to get into a tank for an unfamiliar person.


As the engine starts, the tank takes a deep breath. It's like a living thing.
